Sensible approach to black box (You Drive) policy.

I had a black box (You Drive) policy. My car needed repairs which took several weeks and meant I wasn't driving it. Hastings Direct contacted me asking for information as to why I wasn't submitting any driving data. I was able to explain, forward an email from the garage, and it was fine. I thought the process could have been tricky but the customer service people were helpful and sensible about it. Reviewed on: 20th October 2024

Would avoid at all costs

Had a vehicle accident, been left without a vehicle although fully comp. They use a tick box to find liability regardless of proof the other driver is liable and has stated the police reports and independent witnesses have no impact as they have a tick box only option. Reviewed on: 10th July 2023

Rubbish

Have been with Hastings for over 10 years, never missed a payment never had a problem. Trying to cancel my insurance has been a joke. Not used my car in over 9 months for the passed 4 months have been trying to get through to them and not been able to do so, (have logs of the calls and time frame before I gave up). Finally got through tonight and they charged me 3 times what my monthly insurance was simply to cancel despite me explaining I have been trying to get through for the last four months and they have had 9 months worth of money to insure a car I haven't used. 1st person I spoke to hung up on me, 2nd person was lovely and very helpful but the powers behind her refused to compromise despite me having records of all the times iv tried to be in touch. Absolutely garbage will never use them again, loyal customer for years and all they wanted was their pennies ignorant of the fact they would have made much more from me when I bought my new car. Bad company, poor customer relations and no loyalty .... avoid if u can. Reviewed on: 29th June 2023

Had accident stood at side of road out of danger google Hastings direct number rang and spoke to who I thought was Hastings which in fact was a company called nationwide hire !!! Extremely worried when found I wasn't talking to Hastings. Rang Hastings who said it happens a lot !!!! Why can't they sort this problem out who's scamming who Reviewed on: 29th June 2023

We had a car accident on the 14th June, left without a replacement vehicle, after making a complaint we were compensated and also given a hire vehicle. Thanks you Hastings customer complaints team. Reviewed on: 29th June 2023

Worse Insurance company ever

Partner had a fault accident and the car was taken to storage, garage has been assigned, but the car is awaiting collection for it to be assessed for repairs or write off, paid extra at the start of the policy for a hire car, 3 weeks on, and I keep being told until the car is not assessed either for repairs, then a courtesy car will be given by the garage, if its a write off we get a hire car. This is a complete joke, pay for comprehensive and hire car so that you are not left stranded without a car, and Hastings do not honour this, and to make matters worse the complaints team are a complete waste of time, another week or 2 before anything can be done. Totally understand a shortage of parts at the moment, but why pay for the extras when this is not honoured, a hire car should be provided until a decision is made. Had an accident in January not my fault person ran away was later charged it's still sitting at open claim fault today as they don't reply to emails or calls yet send you letter to say you haven't responded. I have kept all my emails to prove I have Reviewed on: 25th June 2023

Customer service appealing - Will NOT refund a huge increase in renewal even with a confirmed cancelled claim

Renewal price came through on the 27/04 due on the 26/05 for £1,681.87. Due to the below they increased my renewal to £3.131.98 and only refunded £443.80 of the £1,450.11 has been refunded to date. On the 02/05 an unexpected claim was made against me even though this claim was in Surrey.... I'm in Norfolk!! Clear and sufficient tracking evidence and CCTV evidence was sent to Hastings to prove that this trip had not been made by ourselves. Hastings would not accept any of these as clear proof (for whatever unknown reason). We also had a third party inspect the vehicle for damage to which zero evidence of any damage was found. Multiple emails and calls have been with Hastings however their service has been abysmal. On the 08/06 they confirmed that the claim had been cancelled however they have only issued a partial refund of the difference. Is it too much of a convenience that this claim was made near to when the renewal came through.... Who knows, however Hastings should not be touched as when things go wrong it will be you left out of pocket. Reviewed on: 17th June 2023

Failed to auto-renew

They sent an email to say my policy would auto-renew in April 2023. It didn't renew and I didn't realise until I got warning letter from local the police. There is almost no way of contacting this company so I did it by making a compaint which wasn't acknowedged by email. I've now gone with Chuchill who are almost as cheap and were happy to talk to me.
