Frustrating

I have so many problems with HSBC locking my debit card. It gets locked at least once a week and for a period of a few months they would lock it for security reasons every time I made a contactless payment. They might still do so but I've just stopped using contactless because I couldn't be bothered dealing with it anymore. I also spend a lot of time in Norway and they also lock my card when it's used there, even though I always notify them when I'll be in that country and using my debit card. I appreciate why banks have these security procedures but it's so excessive and my card has never been used fraudulently and isn't used in any way that could be considered suspicious. What makes it worse is that they never tell me they've done it and I only find out when I come to pay for something and the payment isn't authorised, which is always embarrassing. The only way I can then use the card again is to call their customer service line and the wait is normally between twenty minutes and an hour. They're never able to give me an explanation as to why it happens at all, let alone so frequently and then they always try to sell me on other products of theirs that I've now declined countless times. Do NOT use HSBC!

Do NOT use HSBC! I have been trying to access my the money in my account for 2 years! I got the Australian banking watchdog AFCA involved & STILL can´t get my money! They seem to be getting hacked as they keep having the wrong phone number listed for me despite me having to change it. Their website fails half the time too! Reviewed on: 18th May 2024

Impossible to withdraw cash over the counter

If you are thinking of opening an HSBC… If you are thinking of opening an HSBC Advance Bank account or transferring from another bank, I highly recommend changing your decision. If you deposit your money you won’t be able to withdraw it back in cash. I visited two different branches yesterday and today and was declined to withdraw a small amount of cash over the counter. I was asked to provide official documents in order to get my money back. I had to listen an hour of lecture as they are only doing it to protect myself. I'm now considering to close the account after 23 years of having it. But there is also a problem/ they don't have any cash in their vaults to give me. I will also need to book an appointment with the area manager if I decide to close the account. Doesn't HSBC have a reputation as the most non-compliant AML bank in the world?
