Claim Dealt with Quickly & Professionally

5
I've just been with JL car insurance for one year but I'm impressed with their service. Unfortunately 3 months after taking out my policy I was involved in an accident. JL dealt with the claim quickly and professionally (even though it was a fault claim) and I would highly recommend them. Reviewed on: 3rd April 2022

DO NOT BUY - Terrible and stressful experience taking money from bank acc without consent

1
have recently had a very negative experience of purchasing JL car insurance. I would like to share with the public how terrible this experience was. This whole customer experience has been very negative and stressful. Please DO NOT take out car insurance with JL. I agreed a premium. Then they requested documents including full data of my partners insurance for which they didn’t consent for their approval to share their data. I sent this in, my policy was increased as JL said I had a claim on my previous insurance so it would increase by £270. I said no thanks to the premium. I cancelled the policy (having paid an initial deposit). JL confirmed they cancelled the policy. Then they took the first instalment from my bank account, without my consent. I contacted them, spent over 30 minutes on the phone. They assured me I would hear within 5 days. 1 week later,no communication so I had to call them back and spent 55 minutes on the phone again - asked for a MANAGER- who tried to deconstruct what I was saying and make me look like a criminal/liar. He told me I would hear within 5 days but heard back 1 day later. JL have said it is ok to charge me without sending or communicating they would do this, have negated all wrong doing! Refuse to rectify poor repair on vehicle

1
Following an accident in my vehicle I have had to return the car to the garage 6 times due to an ongoing fault, John Lewis now claim that the fault is not due to the repairs carried out even though the front sensors were replaced. Now I have to pay a main dealer to investigate the work carried out and they will reimburse me if they find the fault. Reviewed on: 16th January 2022

Hidden fees

1
I joined John Lewis car insurance after a had paid 2 months car insurance then the company phone and asked for my v5 form to be sent . So I sent the v5 form to them and I receive another phone call saying I owe them another £75 for getting my car date I received it and couse I said the car is in a carpark they said it a residential carpark as I don’t understand they said if it’s parked on the road you will be charged £17 so I have had to send photos to there email address to prove it is on the road it’s a complete n utter scam I have driven over 20 years and never had a company ever say this to me . After £2000 to insure my car then couse a disagree on the hidden charge they said cancel the policy . Many more people have been getting cought out with there hidden fees no wonder they want v5 sent over never ever had a insurance company ask that before . After this year a will never take insurance from them again there crooks Reviewed on: 29th December 2021

It's certainly not "high quality cover from a name you can trust"

1
We had an electrical fault in our car which caused a fire 25 days ago... we are still awaiting JL underwriters (Sabre) to make payment for the vehicle which they have deemed uneconomically viable for repair & it looks like it will be another 2 or 3 days before they send me a cheque. Who on earth pays out by cheque in 2019???!!! By the time the cheque clears we will have had no car for 5 weeks & instead of a 30 min commute each way to work it's taking 2 hours in each direction. There is no service whatsoever at any level & you get passed around from call centre to call centre with no one willing to take ownership. Reviewed on: 13th March 2019

they write off cars so easily and under price your car

1
My car has been written off after a parked driver opened his car door while I was driving by. The settlement price they offered us is appalling, deducting £900 because of scratches and dirt prior the accident and their service mediocre -We had to fight to get a courtesy car that came 4/5 days after the incident and that is to be to withdrawn well before the deal is concluded. Utterly dreadful service, utterly dreadful company - hence zero profits this year....

1
Had a minor collision. It took eight weeks to get the car repaired (a new wing). The hire car never matched what I had (an automatic but I would have to pay a daily surcharge) The broker put the insurance through Sabre Insurance - specialists for young drivers or poor risks. (I am 73 with a 9 year no claims) John Lewis are excellent on the phone (that's how they hook your business stupid) but totally useless as insurance brokers. DON'T USE THEM FOR ANY INSURANCE - EVER. Misleading policy

1
For 3 years I renewed my car policy with John Lewis noting that for breakdown cover the policy summary said "Selected." Turns out in John Lewis' world selected doesn't mean selected at all, oh no, only if it has a tick alongside it. Wholly misleading. Avoid. Reviewed on: 28th April 2018

Thieves who give your number to ambulance chasers

1
Someone drove into the back of the lady behind me who was then shunted into me. It happened to be at 6pm on the last day of my car insurance year which was auto-renewing. I rang them to inform them of the accident and from that moment on was inundated with spam phone calls from ambulance chasers who told me they’d been given my number by John Lewis even though I’d requested that they didn’t pass my number on to any other companies and that I was planning to deal directly with the at fault parties insurer. A couple of weeks later I received a bill from John Lewis insurance demanding extra money as I apparently had not informed them of the accident. I complained and eventually they conceded that it was not my fault so refunded part of the extra but not all and claimed that this was just the way it was as premiums had risen in the two months since my insurance year had started. They couldn’t see that this was wrong. I’ve been spreading the word to all I know to avoid them. I’ve already moved my buildings and contents insurance to an alternative provider and am looking forward to moving my car insurance away too. Thieves. Reviewed on: 1st October 2017
