You have to fight for years to get a proper payout from them after 50 years of being a loyal customer. Dreadful company with even worse loss adjusters It’s a long fight to get a proper payout . Dreadful company with even worse loss adjusters. Reviewed on: 22nd August 2023

Theiving robbers with no customer service whatsoever charging £700 for insurance available for under £120

I have had insurance with the Thirsk branch of this company for some years. On checking my policy I found that although telling them that all my insurances need to be paid by yearly direct debit this had not been acted on. I was told by two women on the phone that it was not possible to pay for anything by yearly direct. What a load of rubbish. They were rude with no customer service whatsoever who constantly talked over you and could not give a yes or no answer to anything. This is a company that is living on past glory and has entirely lost its way. Everyone should check what they are paying as I have taken out the same insurance with one of the biggest companies for far less than a third of what they were asking Reviewed on: 11th March 2022

Update RRP midway through your policy

NFU have made me pay the increase in RRP on a watch I had stolen even though the increase occurred midway though my policy. Even their own brokers say this is incorrect but despite complaining they are refusing to refund me. I’ve also been waiting 13 weeks for my replacement watch because they won’t source it from a reputable reseller, only the manufacturer! Really bad service and underhand tactics. Excellence

We have been with NFU for over 5 years now for both home and buildings insurance. They are back far the best insurers we have dealt with. We have made claims in the past for both buildings and home insurance. They have never quibbled or challenged our claims, only asked for reasonable Information to process the claims. And the best customer service we’ve experienced from an insurance company. Absolutely recommend them every time. Reviewed on: 12th September 2021

What a disaster!

In May 2020 I discovered damp patches from a leak that was coming from my en suite shower through the ceiling to the study below. The damage was extensive and NFU contracted the repair work out to C. Hanlon, a trades company. Work began on 24th June 2020 and for ther next 5 months my house was in total upheaval. I never knew if/when workmen would turn up. There were frequent, lengthy delays when they were sent off to other jobs and communication was sparse. The shower room and adjoining bedroom were gutted, the shower, wash basin and toilet were dismantled, carpets and floor boards were ripped up, the bedroom furniture was sent to storage, the ceiling and wallpaper in the study below where the water had leaked through had to be replaced. At one point when the workmen had left for the weekend, I found that they had left a pipe dripping which caused another leak through the ceiling below. By mid-October, the work was finally completed...or so I thought, but in February this year I noticed that the vinyl floor in the shower room had started lifting and suspected that the shower was still leaking. The NFU Claims Adjuster came out, gave a cursory look around and concluded that there was not a problem. However, when I lifted the vinyl I found that the floor boards were soaking. The leak is coming from under the shower tray. So now I am back to where I was in May 2020, with apparently no redress forthcoming. My calls are met with vague promises of future action which has so far not materialised. I wrote to NFU Customer Relations requesting that my claim be prioritised in view of the fact that their subcontractor's incompetence has caused this situation. Their response was that it takes 40 days to resolve a complaint, so clearly I am wasting my time with them. Reviewed on: 31st July 2021

Great personal service

Personal service. I have had the same agent for 4 years. I have consolidatedall of my insurances with NFU. This benefits with a mutual fund discount each year. No difficulty when making a claim either. Very straightforward and easy process. Reviewed on: 22nd March 2021

First class insurance

Their cover is amazing, it offers all the things other companies would class as optional extras but they give it to you no charge. They don't charge admin fees or interest for paying over 12 months. Great, reliable company. Reviewed on: 7th May 2020

So Friendly, so helpful

My son had a serious accident involving a car which knocked him off his bicycle. This was a hit and run, and the driver has never been traced. NFU were so sympathetic and helpful- within a short time we had the claim funds enabling my son to rebuild his bike. It was a while before he was fit for cycling again, however! I particularly liked the helpful and friendly attitude of the staff who discussed my claim. They made things simple and I’d highly recommend them. Reviewed on: 8th September 2019

NFU THE CROOKS

I’ve been with NFU for over 4 years now and I had my house, contents, vehicles and travel insurance with them. I was paying well over £1800 a year. So when my watch was either lost or stolen on the London Underground this year, I was disgusted when I was treated like a criminal. I was basically called a liar and quizzed on how could they have got it off your wrist? Erin Ronan was the lady in question who was obviously tasked with denying my claim. Now if you are new to London and drunk, I was there for a weekend away. It is not difficult for a professional thief to take advantage of the situation. Because of this incident I have taken all my business elsewhere. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS. They were happy taking my money each year. I am writing this to warn others and if I stop just one person going with them. It’s business they have lost. Reviewed on: 4th September 2019
