Appalling Service

Appalling Service My Complaint Initial call at around 14:00 went fine got an estimated time of around two 2hrs, I notified the call operator than this is a mobility vehicle and we have a disabled person on board and would need a wheelchair taxi to transport her home, I was told this gets arranged when the recovery arrives. I received a call around 15 minutes later asking were is the vehicle going to, to which I answered I don't know its a mobility vehicle and needs repairs as it is undrivable. Anticipating problems I called some taxi firms no wheelchair taxi's available. I then proceeded to arrange alternative transport as the weather conditions were freezing and light was failing.. At 16:00 I called RAC again asked for progress and was put on hold for around 2 minutes. The operator then said they were waiting for me to call them back with an address to where the vehicle will be taken, once again I said I don't know as it needs repairs,. At this point I was discussed as I was not told this in the initial call and follow up call (Please listen to you recording) the operation was rude and said I should know this. I was then told that the vehicle would not be recovered until I had a address to where the vehicle would be taken. (This is absolutely appalling as there was a disabled person in a wheelchair still in the vehicle in freezing conditions (this person is wheelchair bound has a swallowing disorder and needs specialized food and drink.. Your call operator would not listen and the alternatim stood if I don't give a address to where the vehicle will be taken no recovery. I said that they can take the vehicle to the owners home address and gave the operator the address. I then informed the operator that the vehicle was going to be left at this stage to which I got a rude reply that then he would close the job. At this point and before this point I was fed up with the operator's lack of knowledge or understanding and may have become somewhat agitated that this person would not listen and kept telling me to listen to him. I left the vehicle there and took the disabled person and her support staff (the driver) back to her home as all attempts to reason with your call handler had failed. I then complained RSA Motability and they then took the recovery further. I received a call from RAC at around 6pm letting me know that there was no RAC recovery vehicle and that this job had been outsourced. I was asked to return to the vehicle, I explained that this was not going to happen and once again explained the circumstance as to why we left the vehicle, this call operator seemed more understanding and said they would put a note on file. I then received a call around 9pm from the recovery company (who were professional and I cannot fault anything they spoke to me about) to get directions to the vehicle. RAC Response Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I'm xxxx and it's my job to look into your experience and let you know what happened. I understand you were unhappy with the attitude of our Breakdown Specialist on this occasion when you called during a breakdown on 13 December 2022. Whilst I'm sorry you've felt the need to raise concern, I can confirm my colleague was correct in their advice. RAC does not know where a vehicle needs to be taken and it is down to the customers to check with their insurance and let us know the tow destination. I apologise for any misunderstanding and I'm sorry you feel aggrieved by the situation. Our customer's satisfaction is of paramount importance to us and I'm very sorry you weren't happy with the way your call was handled. I'd like to thank you for contacting RAC and I assure you that in no way was any discourtesy intended towards you. Just so you know, I've passed on your feedback to the relevant team to make them aware. The RAC has been around for 125 years, and feedback from our members has always helped us improve our service. Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention. Yours sincerely Reviewed on: 15th December 2022

Do not use RAC

Rac so not come out. I told RAC my car had broken down roadside 3 days ago. They give a timeslot, don't come don't contact you. You call them and the same thing happens again and again. Cancel cover if you are with them because you are wasting your money. Reviewed on: 10th December 2022

Waste of time and money.

It's currently 1:33am and I've been waiting for recovery for 10.5hrs. Every time I've rang I get fobbed off by being told someone from dispatch will ring me yet here I am still stranded. I've had to pay out for a taxi to get my wife and my 6yr old son home and I'm now also going to lose a days wages as I'm going to miss work. Unhappy is an understatement. Dreadful service

18 hours later we have a new tire. Called RAC at 4.20 yesterday and we ended up asking for them to put us up for night as we were still waiting in the car at 1am. Lost trust in them as they kept saying we’ll call you back in x amount of time and were very late calling. Reviewed on: 11th November 2022

Shocking experience, after waiting for 6 weeks we are still awaiting our caravan to arrive! Rubbish service, French customer service completely useless as are the UK complaints department. How do you complain about the complaints department? Avoid at all costs. Reviewed on: 12th October 2022

Astonishing bad attitude to customer service

1
Absolutely terrible customer service and appalling attitude when you make a complaint: Apparently, according to their response, our expectations were too high. Should we have expected better than the following?: Taking over 25 hours from them establishing that recovery was necessary, to getting us the 118 miles home. Getting almost zero updates/information during all of that time, about what was/wasn't happening. (What little we did get was almost entirely incorrect). Being given false promises and lies just to get us off the phone. Discovering twice that the 'trusted partner' recovery companies were not prepared for the fact that we also had a trailer because the RAC hadn't bothered to tell them*. Discovering when the second truck arrived, that he could only take us 46 miles. Being dumped in a lorry park from 9.15pm for 16 hours. Discovering after the arranged time for a third truck to be there, that the RAC hadn't bothered to arrange anything at all. Being told at 9.40pm (7 hours after the first recovery was arranged) that a truck would eventually be with us in 3 hours only to find out later that the reason it didn't arrive at all that night was that they didn't actually request it*. Being told at 2am that we could claim back some of the expenses that we had incurred due to being left stranded but then being given incorrect information about how to claim it back. Being told at 2am that we would get a phone call around 7.30am to tell us when a truck would arrive and having to chasing it up 2 hours later because still nobody had phoned. Being told at 9.45 that it was on its way, to then later finding out that (again) they hadn't actually requested it and still didn't request it until over an hour later, and again, they forgot to tell them we had a trailer!* (*I have received evidence from the 'trusted partner' recovery companies regarding the information supplied by the RAC and the times and content of communications between the parties). Obviously we lodged an official complaint at the time and asked them to call us within a few days of our return. They ignored it: we heard nothing so I contacted them again 18 days later. When they finally decided to reply, they said things like "sorry to hear how disappointed you were"..."on this occasion we failed to meet your expectations", rather than any regret about the level of service they had provided. They told us a different way to claim back our expenses, which we have done, and they have ignored that too. They have not bothered to provide any information about their complaints procedure, (if they have one). They have basically taken absolutely no responsibility at all for anything and they obviously just don't care about the ordeal they put us through. Perhaps they will care about the publicity that will follow. Reviewed on: 29th September 2022

As a member of the RAC I expected them to treat me right they turned up when I had broke down on time as they had given me me an estimated time of 4 hours when he told me my car was damaged in the engine I had to question him when I said can I drive home he said yes this was said in front of witnesses I took his advice and drove home some 50 miles away down the motorway 30 miles into the journey inevitable happened my engine blew up and the RAC come back out and told me home which they should have done in the beginning according to professional qualified mechanics in Blackpool this is cost me over 3 thousand-pound. Thanks to the RAC and they have the audacity to lie to me saying they're mechanic never said it it the Mechanic also said the band had done over 120000 miles in his report when in reality it has done little more than 80000 miles what an absolute joke do not trust the RAC go to the AA or green flag Reviewed on: 27th September 2022
