Worst Company Ever! Avoid if you are a first time buyer

My Partner and myself recently applied to Santander for a new mortgage on the help to buy scheme for new build properties. They gave us a promise that their is no problems whatsoever and we can proceed to find a new build property. after we have found the new-build, our dream house that ticketed all the boxes, we proceeded to complete the mortgage application. After an initial yes, and got all the other paperwork and solicitors and everything else in order, paid for the survey and all these things, they suddenly withdrawn the mortgage. just like that! It was not a affordability issue or a credit issue. after a lot of fighting with them we eventually find out that the underwrites had the wrong address history and they could not find us on the credit file and then declined it on that basis. The address was correctly given on the application paperwork. it is clear that someone in administration has made an error and typed 54 in stead of 45. Stander will not review or accept the appeal. "they sympathise with our situation and can clearly see that it was a innocent clerical error however we can not appeal the decision. Our decision is final and it is because of the incorrect address history" Even though it was their error, they refuse to take another look at his application. We also are not getting any money back. WE have lost £1000's in fees both with the solicitors and the builders that we are not getting back, and we have lost our house because the builders does not want to wait for a new mortgage application being done with a new lender. Because the computer is saying "no" because the computer was given inaccurate information Santander says NO. Even-though they have acknowledge that there was an error, they still say no. Never in my Life have I dealt with an company that was so in-human and bullying as Santander. I am at a loss for words to the this. If you are a first time buyer, please avoid like the plague, they will cost you a lot of money that you may not have and will take you years to save up again. I had a mortgage with Santander. Bought my ex out of our mortgage, was told origninally no problem but turned out the agent had ticked the wrong box in the application and was then told they couldn’t lend me any more money. ended up having to take a loan out to buy my ex out knowing there was enough equity in the house to pay it off once I moved. Sold my house in Jan 2025 for enough to leave more than enough to pay the loan off in full. Asked Santander to port my mortgage to keep the good rate I had. I didn’t ask to borrow more money or less. Just to port the exact amount I had on my mortgage over. After weeks of phone interviews they told me they wouldn’t do it. I had never missed a payment, had no financial difficulties and demonstrated based on my house sale price I had more than enough to pay my loan off once the sale completed. They still refused. This meant I had to find another mortgage, I did and naturally the rate was higher. So because of Santander my mortgage is now £200 higher than it should be if Santander had ported it and Santander also took every last penny I had left over from my house sale in exit fees which totalled over £8000. Santander have left me in a considerably worse financial situation purely because they wouldn’t port my mortgage with no justifiable reason not to do so. I would never in a million years recommend anyone use them for a mortgage. They charge 5% early repayment fee on your total mortgage balance whether you have 3 years or 3 days left on your mortgage. A lot of the staff are incompetent and their underwriters have zero compassion or basic common sense Reviewed on: 2nd April 2025

WOULD ADVISE TO BEWARE OF THIS BANK AFTER ABSOLUTE HELLISH EXPERIENCE.WAITING FOR A (SAR) FOR 3 YEARS.INSTEAD RECIEVED NOTHING BUT MISTRUTHS AND INCOMPETENCE INSTEAD.STILL WAITING TO RECIEVE MY INFORMATION AFTER REPEATEDLY CALLING SANTANDER AND VISITING SANTANDER BRANCH FOR THIS SIMPLE TASK TO BE PERFORMED.EITHER THEY ARE ALARMINGLY AND BEYOND INCOMPETENT OR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY HAS OCCURED WITH MY ACCOUNT AND STILL NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS AFTER TELLING SANTANDER FOR 3 YEARS OF THIS OCCURANCE TO MULTIPLE SANTANDER STAFF. I would give it to 0 if I could. The experience is extremely awful, they are not professional at all. THEY DO NOT BOTHER TO CHECK YOR DOCUMENT AND JUST KEPT BOUNCING BACK AND SAID YOUR DOCUMENT IS NOT acceptable! Their employees do not even know how to check sharecode, just inform client and stated that the share code isn't working. Reviewed on: 6th November 2024
