If you are thinking of taking a mortgage with this bank, seriously reconsider. Don't just assess the rates and application process. Check out the long term reviews. I was one of the unfortunate customer's whose Abbey National account was taken over by this bank. I'm sorry I didn't switch provider at the time. Due to a change in financial circumstances I struggled at times to keep up to date with my mortgage, but always kept them informed - Well all I can say is they are the most callous, uncaring company I have ever had to deal with. Despite notifying them once again of my circumstances (a bereavement) and via regular I & E forms, they still chose to harrass me at a funeral , during medical treatment and charged me for 2 failed field visits and used my mobile number without permission. In addition. rather than award over payments to an outstanding debt, they just reduced the term of my loan thus keeping me in arrears so 'technically' I wasn't in arrears. I eventually secured long term , FT employment but unfortunately following a mistake by HMRC I was late again (by a few days) with an arranged payment, but paid in excess of the requested amount....but they still opted to pass my account over to their litigation team. To get away from this nasty, appalling company, I've decided to sell my house. However, despite my informing them of my sale, they have suggested court proceedings if I fail to make my monthly payment 8 days before my completion date! I've now had to bring my sale forward as their action would put the sale in jeopardy. I don't actually owe much on the mortgage, but clearly they are keen to get their hands on the property, which has substantial equity in it. Yes, Carpetbaggers would make a suitable strapline for this bank and their partners. You couldn't make it up...all I can say is AVOID...AVOID..AVOID. Reviewed on: 15th October 2016

Good experience

I have had a good experience with Santander mortgages. Have always got good fixes rates for a few years. There is also the benefit of getting cashback on the mortgage in your current account. Received good mortgage advice from Santander and good customer service. Reviewed on: 11th September 2016

Good but could do better

Having had a mortgage with Santander for over 10 years, I have to say that as far as the product goes, the deals they offer, rates and fees they apply, they are as good if not better than the competition. The problem I had was more to do with the customer service aspect, and if you need to do something as simple as change a phone number, you was either kept waiting for long periods of time, or even when you did get through they didn't always do what you wanted them to and it needed several requests. Overall I would recommend Santander, but be prepared for average at best, customer service. Reviewed on: 9th September 2016

Couldn't be more helpful

When I divorced it turned out exh hadn't been paying the mortgage. He'd intercepted letters, it was a mess. As soon as I went into the branch (medical issues precluded me using the phone) the lovely lady (Jill) dropped everything to listen and help a very upset person. I few times I had difficulties making the agreed payments and yet was never penalised. I feel that they genuinely did work in my interests, and always in a compassionate and friendly manner. On the plus side I'm ok now and my mortgage is paid off. Reviewed on: 6th September 2016

Santander Mortgage one year on

So another year has passed since my previous review. I can't really add too much to what I originally said. Being on a fixed rate means little has changed. That's just the way I like it though. Once my deal is sorted I expect payment to be taken correctly and little else. One thing I can say is that I get very little hassle from Santander in terms of emails and calls trying to push other products(I may have had a couple of letters). Again that is just the way I like it. I am the sort of person who prefer to find insurance etc myself without any hard sell. Others seem unable to get that message - Yes I'm talking about you Yorkshire Bank! So as my deal approaches the end of Its term the questions I will ask are will I look for another fixed rate deal? I probably will. Despite the record low interest rates that are unlikely to move much I still like stability. I'm sure lots of people would say I'd be stupid though. Secondly will I remain a Santander customer? Well I can't see that far into the future yet. Obviously I will have a good shop around nearer the time but if Santander are amongst the top deals previous experience and the good customer service would definitely sway things in their favour. Mortgage Application

Mortgage application was quite a straightforward process, considering how mortgage applications are in nature. We were kept up to date at every stage via their automated service, which was really helpful. There was a slight blip in that in the mortgage offer they had put down the value of the property at the wrong price, however this was resolved shortly after and the rest of the application was very smooth. I am not normally someone who likes banks but I have to say I have very positive experience with Santander mortgage people, everything was straight forwards and all my queries were answered in a timely manner. Clear and Straight forward

Having held a mortgage with Santander for a number of years i have had no problems with the service,rates or fees, which are very competitive in the market. My local branch is very helpful in the times i have had to make an appointment unlike my experience with many rivals on other products i hold. I would certainly recommend Santander. Hassle free Mortgages

After careful research we chose to apply for a mortgage with the Santander as they offered us the best package compared to all the other high street banks.
