Review of the Tesco Bank, Car Insurance:

Consistently good

I am very happy with my car insurance from Tesco, who I have been with since I passed my test six years ago. Since then, they have consistently offered fair prices and have made me want to renew each year. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Always received excellent service

My car was recently written off. The first staff member filled up the claim form with me over the phone which saved me much hassle. Then I made a follow-up phone call a few days later and got a reasonable settlement immediately.. Prior to that I had had a collision where the other party refused to accept responsibility though it was obvious they were. On my behalf Tesco took this to court and we won. I have always found the staff very efficient and helpful. So long as their premiums don’t rocket I would choose to stay with them and recommend the company to others. Reviewed on: 1st November 2023

Slow customer services, leave you hanging

Car was flooded in a car park when the River Thames burst its banks. Tesco pass you to a firm called FMG who then say they are allocating a garage to collect the car for repair but won't give any sort of timescale and, of course, you do not get a courtesy car until they collect. So this will leave you without transport for an unspecified length of time. FMG might turn up tomorrow, or 3 weeks time and you won't get a courtesy car until then. This is direct opposite of convenient. How can you plan work, trips to collect people from stations, airports, drop children at scouts, visiting relatives in hospital if you have no idea when the courtesy car will be available? If you call FMG they tell you to call Tesco and if you call Tesco they tell you to call FMG. And despite the size of the car you insured with them you will get a 1 litre tiny little car like a Yaris. Car insurance.....awful

Got large crack in windscreen, need a new one. Contacted tesco car insurance & was advised I needed to drive it to nearest branch (40 min drive away!!) & they can't replace it for another 2 weeks! When I asked is it safe to drive, the answer I got was it won't shatter onto you, its safety glass!! I replied 'yes, but I won't be able to see'!!! Reviewed on: 31st October 2023

Bad Service

Tesco Bank I would not be recommending. Very bad service received-slap dash attitude from customer service representative. Reviewed on: 24th October 2023

Don't do it to yourself

It's really not worth the time hassle and money. The amount hassle I went through to prove my address even though all document were aligned with the same address they had. They deemed it as no proof of address. Honestly tesco, stick to the groceries and leave the insurance and other bits alone Reviewed on: 19th October 2023

AVOID

I was a member of Tesco Black Box car insurance for a duration of two years. On the 25th of March 2022, I was involved in a vehicular accident, following which I was provided with a replacement vehicle by Enterprise Rent a Car, facilitated through my Tesco Black Box insurance policy. My own vehicle was deemed a total loss, and subsequently, Tesco Insurance disbursed a payout to facilitate a replacement vehicle. This pay-out was subject to a £350 deduction as an excess, with a commitment from Tesco Insurance to reimburse this amount once I was determined to be not at fault. Upon procuring a new vehicle, I chose to retain my insurance coverage with Tesco, incurring an additional £90 fee for the change in the insured vehicle. I was assured that this fee would be reimbursed upon a determination of non-fault status. Furthermore, Tesco Insurance imposed an additional premium of £317 on top of the pre-existing insurance costs for my previous vehicle. Despite my persistent attempts to engage with Tesco Black Box insurance, documented through a series of interactions on 17.05.22, 24.06.22, 28.06.22, 30.06.22, and 02.09.22, no substantive updates were provided regarding the payment from the third party insurance. Subsequently, Tesco Insurance directed me to contact the third-party insurer independently to secure the return of the excess amount. I duly contacted the third-party insurance provider and successfully reclaimed my excess. Nonetheless, Tesco continued to levy a premium of £998.64 for my insurance coverage, even after my policy was renewed on 01.11.12. This was contingent on their assurance that the premium would be reimbursed once a non-fault determination was established. Over the course of more than a year, I maintained regular contact with Tesco Insurance, seeking reimbursement for the expenses. No progress was made in resolving my claim, and Tesco consistently declined to provide the promised reimbursement. Frustrated with the lack of resolution, I opted to terminate my insurance policy with Tesco Insurance on 15.10.23. To my surprise, this action incurred an £80 cancellation fee, and an additional £50 charge for failing to return the black box device, even though such an option had not been presented. Subsequently, I received an email from Tesco Insurance on an unspecified date, confirming the receipt of their payout from the third-party insurer. They also affirmed my non-fault status in the accident and assured the removal of any claims affecting my no-claim discount. Subsequently, I initiated contact with Tesco to request the reimbursement of the outstanding sums. Multiple formal complaints were lodged with Tesco Insurance through email and live chat, all of which have been meticulously documented. In light of the absence of responses from Tesco, I sought legal counsel to pursue the resolution of this matter. On 17.10.23, I received correspondence from Enterprise Rent a Car, stating that they have not received the payment they were due from the third-party insurer, adding to the complexity of the situation. The Enterprise Act 2016 made it an implied term of every insurance contract (taken out since 4 May 2017) that the insurer must pay any sums due in respect of an insurance claim within a “reasonable time”. 1 year and 7 months is not reasonable time Reviewed on: 17th October 2023

Worst company everrrrr

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Tesco insurance after reporting a flood incident on my car. It took them a staggering three months to send someone to assess the damage. After finally picking up the car and two subsequent calls, they initially claimed it was written off, only to later backtrack, stating there was no water damage, and suggested repairing it. This level of inconsistency and prolonged process is not only frustrating but also detrimental to one's mental health. I strongly advise avoiding Tesco car insurance based on this ordeal. Cowboy insurance company

I went online and purchased tesco car insurance fully comp and business thought all was ok and a good price. But to my horror they phoned a month later to inform me I was not insured for business and could not explain why, the conversation went on for a good 45 mins with the person on the phone contradicting themselves and couldn't explain to me why they had not covered me for business when it clearly says on my policy that I was covered. Wasn't getting anywhere so asked them to cancel the policy immediately and return my money to which they said they would minus £20 for what I don't know they truely should stick to groceries and leave the serious stuff to people who know what they are doing. Tesco have lost all my business now and my families as I will not be dealing with any part of their business again. Terrible customer service, They had me driving round doing my pharmacy patient deliveries with no cover. Go elsewhere is my advice. Reviewed on: 18th September 2023
