Cover My Breakdown Vehicle breakdown insurance reviews (12)

Complete rip off company.

I broke down 100 miles from home. I rang as I had national breakdown cover. The told me it was not valid for that distance. When is national not national? All they offered was recovery - at £650!! Apparently it was all in the small print. Total rip off. I wish I had read through poor reviews - several of which record identical experiences. Reviewed on: 22nd October 2025

Should be called, Cover My Scam.

1
Avoid! Buyer beware! I went with ‘cover my breakdown’ same as many others have because of the low cost. I should have known better, the cheap cost would cut corners somewhere. I have always had breakdown cover as my worse nightmare is to be left stranded on the road side somewhere. With ‘cover my breakdown’ you are in a very high chance of having just that happen, even if you have paid them up to date! Firstly, they are not a true breakdown company in the sense that if you call them, they just come out and help you get fixed and on your way again. The first thing as many others online have found, is even if you can get hold of them on the phone as they don’t seem to answer very quickly at all, they will try anything to get and wriggle out of helping anybody. The reason why is they are an insurance company, NOT a true breakdown company. So they will need to pay a third party to come out to help you. This cost them, so they don’t want to pay to assist you! I have been with them three times now, and as many have said easy to set up and use and they take your money really easy. Try ringing them on the phone! Last Thursday for the first time in three years my car wouldn’t start, so I rang them. It took me two and a quarter hours of being past around different numbers only to arrive back at the first caller again who was hell bent I had a key problem. Because they thought I had a key problem they won’t help as not covered. I told them I had tried both key fobs, and both was not working and the electrics had failed and not working. On that information alone should tell anybody, let alone a so called professional expert, it is most lightly a car issue, not a faulty key fob. As many others have also found and experienced, I too was also left stranded as many others with no breakdown cover or help at all. After hours of waiting for a manager to call back, and arguing on the phone asking for just someone to come out and help. I ended up having to sort out the problem myself, and got a garage to come out and have a look. Right away the guy said, looks like a duff battery as low power on car horn, electric windows, no door locks working etc and just needed a jump start, and everything worked just fine again. End of the day, a faulty battery, a simple good old-fashioned breakdown. Had ‘cover my breakdown’ bothered to send someone out as I was entitled to, or even listened to me. I would have been up and running and back on my way in no time, with minimal cost to them, and they would have kept a loyal customer, instead of loosing one has they now have. Plus my son, friends and everyone I know will tell on social’s will hear of my experience’s will cost them! It may cost more in the long run, but take it from me you can’t beat the age old good service of a proper rescue service like the AA or the RAC who I am going back to now. No doubt they will reply to this and say anything to wriggle out of this as well, but my words are the truth of my experience with them. I do have proof of them admitting there call handler got it wrong. No good saying that four days later after being stuck and dumped by the side of the road!! Reviewed on: 20th October 2025

Huge Regrets Getting Involved With These People

1
Tried to cancel, as I realised I already had cover elsewhere. I've been calling and emailing for over a week and cannot get through and no reply to emails. My 14 days are running out. Just horrendous. I'm currently waiting for an hour on the phone and still nothing. Reviewed on: 8th April 2025

AVOID AVOID AVOID only good at taking your £

Cover my breakdown were absolutely appalling! Broke down 30 miles from home, disabled driver in extremely cold temperatures. Signal was difficult. The only 2 times they answered the phone in over 30 minutes in queue listening to music or ring tone they did not take our location, organise anything at all. It sounded like they actually put the phone down on me and made no effort to call back! I had to arrange for an independent recovery truck who did actually keep in touch by text and phone. No stars. Out of pocket. No peace of mind. Renewal process is fine. Service when required non existent. Update: I contacted covermy for a complaints contact. They gave me [email protected]. The emails are being rejected. I have gone back to covermy for a different communication route but no response. The lack of any service of any kind continues! Only good at taking your money. AVOID this company at all costs!

AVOID this company at all costs! I paid for a National and Home policy. My policy schedule says 'home assistance' included so when my car was dead as a dodo one morning I called 'CoverMy Breakdown' for come and help me. They asked me lots of questions which, in hindsight, were all targeted to try and find a clause to get out of helping me. I called them on a Tuesday and on Monday I had got into the car and started the engine so it was strange that the following morning my car was flat. I explained this to the call-handler and I also explained that I'd had ongoing issues with the batteries in my key-fob (which I'd fixed on the Monday) and that my car was due a software recall update at the Peugeot garage for the following week. They asked me if there was any way I could have caused the battery to drain myself to which I said no as it had started the previous day and we hadn't used it. I did go on to say that on Saturday my husband had left the indicator stalk up which causes my car to leave a parking light on. I'd turned that off on Sunday when I noticed it and then BOOM! I'd made their day. The call-handler sounded almost gleeful in telling me that 'sorry they weren't able to help me'. He then immediately spouted out a T&C Article 4 or something explaining that because I accidentally left a light on it was therefore deemed my fault my battery was dead and therefore it invalided the cover! WOW. I have to applaud them for their questioning technique as I felt I was being geniunely helpful in explaining everything that had lead upto this day but all they were doing was trying to find a way out of it. Luckily my husban's van was being recovered from our driveway the following day (as he'd been in an accident) and the recovery driver for him was really willing and kind to help me. It turns out my car did need a jump start but then the car starting showing up lots of faults and error messages. I daren't try my 'recovery' company to help so I had my husband follow me to Peugeot in his hire van and I've left if with them to fix. I was so lucky that I wasn't in a real emergency situation. The cover was cheap and I've learnt my lesson. I just wish I'd seen these reviews before paying them. Funny how I can't seem to be able to leave me a google review. Hopefully this will help others avoid being scammed and left in trouble. I have no faith in this company any more and will be seeking alternative cover immediately. Reviewed on: 25th July 2024

Put me in more danger!

1
I was stranded on a grass verge sandwiched between 4 lanes of traffic and another 2 on the other side. Pouring rain. They inisited I pay up £30 prior to sending someone out despite me explaining I would need to dodge traffic to get back into my car as no hard shoulder. They insisted even after I said your putting me in danger. 2.5 hrs in pouring rain and shivering. Rude on the phone, no compassion or empathy. I will be making a formal complaint. Useless

Needed two tyres replacing after blowouts, couldn't send mobile tyre fitter, said there were non in the area, yet they offer mobile fitting as part of the cover. Then found out they'd not updated our address when we called them a few weeks prior and said they'd take us to our old house. You never know how good or bad they are until you need them. Don't find out how bad these lot are. Reviewed on: 31st December 2023
