Review of the AA, Breakdown Cover:

Aa have let me down and hampered my work

1
I have been waiting for my van to be recovered from Manchester back to Liverpool since the Aa mechanic placed an order for one at 1pm yesterday . The wheel bearing has disintegrated, and the vehicle is un- drivable. I was initially told that I would be recovered within 90 minutes. I had no word from anyone, so called the Aa, only to be told eta 4.30 pm. When no one showed up at 4.30pm, I called back, and was told that Mansfield recovery were too busy, and couldn’t give me an eta. Obviously, this was very upsetting for me, as I had been waiting since 10.30 am. It was now dark, raining and the road I was on isn’t a safe place to be at night. The Aa operator then offered to call me a taxi back to Liverpool, with the promise that, if I left my keys in the wheel arch of the van, then the Mansfield recovery truck would collect my van later that evening, and deliver it to my mechanic in liverpool. This I agreed to, as I needed to load up another vehicle for work in Manchester the next day. My van still hasn’t been recovered for me, and my mechanic had moved other jobs, so that he could fix my vehicle today, ready for me to work with tomorrow. Mansfield quite clearly don’t see Aa customers as a priority…… and the Aa operator couldn’t find anyone else to recover my van either. Which begs the question, what am I paying for? I was told I had upgrade my cover yesterday from gold membership, to cover the transit as a business vehicle. I was charged £107, only to be treated appallingly. This has caused me a great deal of stress. I have been left worrying that my van could get vandalised or stolen….. the keys are in the wheel arch, as the operator suggested. If something bad happens to my van, because the Aa hasn’t recovered it, who will be liable. I am now going to have to use another smaller van, and make two trips tomorrow…. This has messed me around, and so I would like to know how the Aa think this is a good way to treat loyal Customers? Definitely going to leave them asap, after pursuing them legally. I’m now told they will recover it at 9.15 tomorrow, but I’m not holding my breath… They have lost another loyal customer…… Reviewed on: 21st January 2025

Great Roadside Assistance

Had a chap named Guy help me with my car today. Having recently switched over from RAC due to a disagreement over a battery warranty, first experience was great. Perfect communication, ran additional tests they didn’t have to and really helped me diagnose the problem. Gave recommendations of where to go at the lowest rate, checked my tyre pressure as they looked low, and came earlier than we expected. Offered a tip as a thank you, and even refused it. Can’t fault the service or the technician at all, and will certainly stay with them from now on. Many thanks to Guy and the AA. Reviewed on: 23rd February 2023

This company stole £342 from my business account without authorisation.

This company stole £342 from my business account without authorisation. I signed up to the AA breakdown in Jan 2022 for £120. On the 2nd of Jan 2023 I received an email stating that my policy would be auto-renewed at a cost of £342! that day. This was not something I had authorised. I checked that the payment had not gone out and stopped my card, I also checked that no standing order or direct debit was in place. I sent an email to the AA and told them that I did not want to auto renew and they emailed back and said that I have agreed to it by accepting the T&Cs. (I never accept auto renewals and had I been aware of this I would not have accepted it). I then received a second email with an offer to renew at £120, I refused on principle. I considered the matter delt with but on the 1st Feb £342 was taken from my account. I am still unsure about how this was taken as my card details had changed! I informed my banks fraud team and the amount was refunded, I am very concerned that this company is able to take money without current card details! Unauthorised direct debit?? I have no idea how it was done but if I were to take £342 I would be arrested, one rule for the big fish and another for the small fry! Reviewed on: 3rd February 2023

It Is bad If you break down, no one to come and pick you up. So It's Good to have cover. Reviewed on: 1st February 2023

poor customer service

1
Very poor customer service. Clearly the AA has no respect for loyal customers and a complete insult to our intelligence. As a regular customer i am charged £25 per month (with no breakdown claims) and a new customer pays £8 for the same cover. Not any more... Reviewed on: 20th January 2023

Useless with no customer care

Turbo pipe blew on my van giving it a maximum speed of 20mph and struggled to get up hills. AA left me in a dangerous location for 9 hours, promising they'd attend but didn't. Eventually I had to risk my life, driving onto a motorway and up the hardshoulder all the way home, as they failed to get a single vehicle to attend. They promised to come to my home to relay the vehicle to a garage, and didn't turn up either. They offered compensation, but after numerous promises, nothing has arrived after 6 months of chasing. There is zero customer service. If you call - they just tell you they've sent an email on your behalf and someone will get in touch within 72 hours - but they don't. No empathy, no concern, no customer care at all. Put the money in a savings account every year instead and use it if you break down then. Save yourself the pain of dealing with a company that simply don't care Reviewed on: 12th January 2023

All about the money. No care

My daughter had a blowout, we have fleet insurance for 6 cars, was told cover ran out in 2021, checked card in car and it says 2022. We thought we had renewed for this year. Will be checking bank in the morning, however, apparently the car in question doesn't exist on DVLA database, she can't even renew cover at side of road and they refuse to come out, she's on a long unlit road by herself. Thank goodness link tyre sales have more sense. The car in question was found immediately on the DVLA database and they are in their way to get her sorted without even asking for money upfront!!! AA service

Wife flat tyre on A303 Right now. We are Gold members and have been for years. She’s been told 1-6 hours to wait. I called National Tyres and a guy called Ryan is coming in 1 hour with tyre to fix problem. Of course I will be paying him and it’s out of hours but I don’t care. My wife has been treated appallingly by a woman at the AA who couldn’t have cared less. In future I suggest we all save our insurance premium and if you get a breakdown (which is rare these days) just pay for the local tyre/tow etc service. You’ll probably save a lot more than you spend over the years. I have 4 cars insured with the AA and it costs about £250 a year. In future my own money will insure me!
