I had recently swapped to the CO-OP Bank as I decided to change from Santander,I had the account open for less than a month when I tried to purchase an item online from Dunelm mill ,It took 2 attempts as thefirst payment was apparently not authorised,Later on checking my account I found that both payments of £260 (so £520) had gone from my account,I contacted the Co-op and was basically told they are a holding bank and i had to sort the payment out with the company I purchased from, withing 1 week I made a payment to my credit card or £500 which was also taken twice,I got that back within 3 days but the original payment took 3 weeks to go back into my account with no help from the co-op. Good ethical bank, not great online

I found online banking to be difficult to log in to, with not much help if you enter your details in wrong. Reviewed on: 30th December 2016

What impresses me most about the Co-op Bank is what impresses very many of those who choose to be with it. It's sheer ethical, moral standing. I find the bank utterly trustworthy - i.e. on your side and not on their own. - And that says a lot these days. I trust them to look after my money for my sake. Reviewed on: 28th December 2016

Lovely people, real human relationship with a bank

I have been with HSBC for years. But Ive been extremely impressed with how Co-operative bank handled a situation recently for me. Making it easier to let go of a long-standing relationship. The people in Bristol branch were particularly warm and accessible. Simply they make you feel you matter. Reviewed on: 5th December 2016

They're great

I had an account with coop for 3 years and eventually closed my account as I had to have one else where due to where I worked. I soon opened an account with co-op again after realising how accessible they are in comparison to other providers. The 24 hour phone line and Internet banking app are all I've ever needed to use and the staff are always friendly and sound like real, down to earth people. I've never had a problem with them and when I had my card stolen and used by someone else, they sorted it out right away. They once even wrote to me to tell me they'd realised they'd not paid me enough interest on my account 2 years ago and sent a cheque with the amount, during the period I'd closed my account with them. Can't expect much more from them. Reviewed on: 30th November 2016

The Un-Co-operative Bank - ethical?!

1
Two months ago, we enquired about switching to The Co-op, wanting to benefit from the £150 switch incentive. Initially we were told on the phone that, as our current banking provider wasn't signed up to the switch scheme, we wouldn't be eligible. They then checked this and found that if we used their "manual switch" process that we would still be eligible, but that this process would take 4-6 weeks. Okay, so it's £150 and we wanted to switch anyway, so we waited. The switch went ahead but, several phone calls later we have still not received the incentive and, despite being told by two people we were eligible, we've now been told that we were "mis-informed". So, having physically moved all of our banking from our old provider, doing everything we were told by the Co-op, moving our wages and direct debits etc as required, we're not eligible apparently. I'm currently on the phone, where I have been for 53 minutes, trying to sort this out and "argue" our case. Is ethical banking really this difficult....? Reviewed on: 25th November 2016
