Review of the Halifax, Fixed Rate Mortgage:

Extremely untrustworthy

1
Do not even apply for a mortgage with these extremely unprofessional individuals. Initially I was told that they would lend me £125,000 for the mortgage and gave an AIP. Next they said they'd only loan me £99,000 because I spent £3000 to book a holiday on my credit card (which is what sound minded people do for insurance). Next day they told me that they could loan me somewhere between £119,000 and £135,000 with the full and same details i gave them again. Two days later, after sending my application to an underwriter, they saidnthey could only lend me £113,000 and specifically stated that this as because I had booked my holiday in my credit card DESPITE me paying it off days later. Utterly vile individuals. How is that junk bank still in operation. Managed by idiots. Reviewed on: 14th September 2023

Helpful staff gave good information about mortgage product and how to overpay. Easily set up extra payments with no hassle. Reviewed on: 11th July 2020

Rubbish Service

Halifax are not providing a service. I am in a vulnerable situation, i have let you know and yet it makes no difference to your service. You are impossible to contact and everyone i speak to has a different update, not sure your staff are working in the correct departments. This poor service has been ongoing since March. Borderline unethical. Terrible systems.

1
I was sold a '5 year fixed' deal, which wasn't - I am being charged thousands to 'early exit' even thought we've been here and never missed a payment for over 5 years. Their systems are archaic - I spent multiple hours on the phone and in branch as they couldn't bring my personal and mortgage accounts under the same umbrella, meaning I was locked out of viewing and managing my mortgage for weeks. They gave me around £100 for this, but it took about a day to sort and 3 weeks to implement. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Reviewed on: 26th May 2020

Poor admin

Very poor admin- didn't change addresses or surnames when requested, despite Branch Manager confirming they had completed it - twice! Reviewed on: 30th April 2020

Mindless drones!!!

I've had a nightmare experience with Halifax. I had a valuation done on a property, which you have to pay £200 for, other lenders do it for free. The valuation report was never signed off, which means we couldn't get the mortgage. It took 3 months of going back-and-forth, trying to satisfy their valuation company with the documents they needed. Every single one was rejected and the same scripted speech was given as a response each time. It was like being in an episode of Little Britain, "Computer says nooo!". The concern was around cladding, on a concrete building. They couldn't tell us where the cladding was, just wanted the developer to say it was safe. They rejected the letter saying it was safe, which was signed off by someone with the qualifications listed in their requirements of the letter. That was the last straw, it was impossible to get this mortgage, so I went with another lender and got the mortgage almost instantly. They robbed me of £200 and are refusing to refund it. They told me to contact the Financial Ombudsman Service and escalate it further if I wanted to. They don't care about you, they just don't care. They don't care about having you run around in circles trying to please them. They offer nothing but scripted spiel and cannot, simply, deviate from that script and tell you exactly what was wrong with what you gave them, when you feel like you have satisfied that scripted spiel. Mindless drones!!!! Reviewed on: 20th March 2020

Good new customer mortgages, terrible for existing customer.

1
Never go with halifax. They have a new policy of not wanting existing customers to stay with them. the mortgage rates they offer existing customers are the same as the standard variable rate. I presume this is to cover them from having to give existing customers the deals regardless of affordability. compare this to other companies that offer the same deals to new and existing. not what you would expect from reputable name which halifax clearly isnt any more. bye bye. you wont see my money again. Easy to Set Up but not competitive

We have reached the end of our fixed deal with the Halifax and looked for another fixed deal product with the Halifax, however their rates are just not even close to other high street banks so although we love the service and the ease of setting up the mortgage, we will have to find another mortgage provider when our deal finishes. Mis-sold by the mortgage advisor

2
The Halifax mortgage advisor kept a crucial detail from us, when we found out about it, a couple of days after completion, we called to tell Halifax we would like to remortgage with another bank, however, we were told the cooling-off period starts from the offer acceptance and not from completion and if we go ahead we would have to pay the early exit fees.
