Great easy experience buying our first home.

Really helpful mortgage advisor who went out of her way to find us a convenient appointment, went through everything clearly and then called us straight away when there was a slight problem, which wasn't one at all. All the paperwork was done and sent through to us well before we were ready to exchange and after so many horror stories, our mortgage was the least stressful part of buying our first home Reviewed on: 14th May 2016

Fab customer service - honest, reliable and straightforward

We wanted to look at whether or not we could save money by switching out mortgage to a fixed deal. I was in branch anyway to sort out a savings account for my baby, so asked the question. The member of staff was very helpful and told me I could look over the costings etc online which would save me and my partner coming into branch for a meeting of up to two hours. I did this when I got home, and had my new mortgage set up in next to no time in just a few clicks. Reviewed on: 19th February 2016

Staff provide excellent customer service.

Everything was made so straightforward. When trying to book the initial appointment, they couldn't find us a weekend appointment for 4 weeks and we wanted to move in 8. We explained this and the cashier could not do enough for us. She looked up 6 different branches availability and spoke to two asking them to switch their appointments round to fit me in. She promised she'd call me back the next day, and sure enough she did, letting me know that she was still trying to find an appointment. Three days later she called offering us a cancelled appointment that was the next weekend. Once at the appointment, everything went smoothly, the different options were presented clearly and we didn't need to speak to them again or chase up- documents confirming the mortgage offer were sent through before the solicitors were ready, meaning there was delay. On the day of completion, the money went through smoothly and the next day a lovely welcome parcel arrived from Halifax- such a lovely gesture with a company I was already very happy with. Overall, I have never had such friendly, helpful service from an institution and would highly recommend Halifax to my family. Reviewed on: 19th February 2016

I have had a great experience with Halifax for many years as a banking customer, though last year I took out a mortgage, and Halifax were so helpful from the beginning to moving into our new home. They cover all the little details such as posting a "new home" pack with little treats and a mini DIY kit. It was just so lovely seeing our name on a parcel at our new house! We were also able to take advantage of a cash back offer for first time buyers which came in so useful. I've already recommended halifax to others who are currently looking for a mortgage. Good experience with a Halifax mortgage

Good Competitive Rates

Have been with Halifax mortgages for 3 years now after originally taking out a 2 year fixed rate, when the time had come that my fixed rate was over a quick call to customer services later and I had been offered the lowest rate around for another 2 year contract and they even rushed the paper work so it would be processed before that months payment so it would be reduced. They messed up changing the amount of an overpayment.

I'd rang up to increase my overpayments to an extra £116, but they only increased it by £16. Either the advisor misheard, or it was a typing mistake. I didn't find out until the direct debit went through, necessitating another call to Halifax to sort it out. Reviewed on: 15th August 2015

Remortgaged to a new fixed rate in 5 minutes and saved £70 a month!

I have now had a Halifax mortgage for 18 months and my fixed rate deal was ending. I looked at the offers on the website and when I entered my mortgage number, was given 2 deals to choose from - a 2 year fixed rate or a 4 year fixed rate. I selected the one that I wanted and was given a reference number to log in to check the progress of my switch. The next day, I received an email from Halifax to say it had all been confirmed and I would receive confirmation documents in the post as well as online. I've saved £70 a month on my mortgage for 5 minutes of my time! Reviewed on: 10th August 2015
