Impersonal and slow

HSBC have a global image and might be handy if you’re international. However, I found them to be very impersonal and lacking in basic service. Their telephone colleagues don’t know what to do, and it’s a nightmare speaking to someone in my local branch (average wait 1 hour). App works alright but nothing special. I’m mostly disappointed in their ethical status and lack of value from everyday products. I’ve closed my account and will be going somewhere I’m treated as a person and not number! Don’t care about their customers

Huge craggy monolith with zero interest in normal customers. General disdain demonstrated over the years, but topped off with leaving me stranded 6000 miles from home with no access to cash after my wallet was stolen. (In a city with a massive HSBC presence!) customer “service” basically said tough luck. Reviewed on: 3rd February 2024

Appalling customer service.

Appalling customer service. I applied for an HSBC Advance current account on 30th October, HSBC acknowledged my application and confirmed that they would "need to do some important checks. This may take up to 10 days". I heard nothing so I raised a formal complaint which was acknowledged with a reference on 4th December. I've since continued to receive generic, seemingly automated e-mails telling me "We are taking your concerns seriously and again, I'm really sorry for the continued delay" though the reality is I don't believe they are taking my concerns seriously and I don't believe they're sorry. This is by far the worst customer service experience I've ever received from a bank or any financial institution. At time of writing in January 2024 its now been 73 days since I applied for this current account and 38 days since I raised a formal complaint and the account is still not open and the complaint has still not been appropriately responded to. On December 24th 2023, I submitted an application online for a 1 year Fixed rate of 4.7 % on £10000. As of today I have made several phone calls to HSBC to ask why my application has NOT been processed, but is still pending, but have had no email, message or phone call to confirm why HSBC has not processed the account I applied for. The person that I spoke to for telephone banking asked 10 questions for security I answered them all correctly as they were questions about me, but the person I spoke to had a very strong accent and could not understand my English accent? And she was difficult to understand what a waste of time she said I had answered the question incorrectly I had not she just couldn't understand English what a waste of time, I had to go into the band branch to find someone who understood English. HSBC acts as typical scammer! It does not allow to your money online (when confirming transaction it displays “temporary service unavailable” (read : all day), ordering payment via phone, agent confirming it, money stays on my daughter’s bank account, nothing happens, payment (urgent one) not realized! She can not use her own money for paying an invoice! Reviewed on: 12th December 2023

Incompetent and uncaring organisation

I've been a business account holder with HSBC for 13 years. I have a premium HSBC personal account. 32 days ago HSBC closed one of my business accounts because they didn't have the correct ID on file. No telephone call, no email just a letter that went to our postal address. Consequently the the letter was not opened in time so HSBC took action to close the account. The safeguarding team who operate out of Malta (tax haven) have taken over 30 days to review a single piece of ID (HMRC Tax Return). My account is still closed and over five figures in cash have been taken by HSBC. The safeguarding team are lying to customers or are poorly trained (you can make your own mind up on this) and have no understanding of the damage they are causing to a successful and profitable business that contributes over six figures per year just in Corporation Tax. I would advise anybody considering an HSBC business account to abandon the idea very quickly and look at alternatives. Reviewed on: 24th October 2023
