My business has 3 separate companies accounts, and is charity and not for profit supporting the NHS Maternity sector. We have been with HSBC for over 35 years. I have never, ever, been so frustrated and angry as now with regard to its supposed 'safeguarding' technique for want of a better word. The issue with one of the companies has been going on now for over 18 months. Constant emailing, phoning (which is a nightmare - waiting for at least half an hour to find you cant hear the person at the end, and they don't seem to understand anything), and complaining. Generic non sensible responses to any complaint - just a standard nothing telling you how' important safeguarding is and for us to be mindful of taking it seriously'!!! The safeguarding on line form is impossible to complete for us as most of the questions are irrelevant to our charity. One document fits all as they say! We finally completed this after one year in February, after an apology and small compensation for what took literally days out of my business time! Hooray I thought. To my horror another request was flagged up three weeks later to complete another! 'It is a random request from the computer' says the non helpful HSBC clerk. There are so many issues, and the problem is that nothing seems to get resolved. I cannot bear this anymore, and no one with any tiny amount of competence is available. Can anyone help???

I have been locked out of my account for days for the simple error of needing to change a password. A simple problem that most organisations deal with online within a few minutes. With HSBC this has taken days and still nothing. The on-line system requires downloading a form printing it signing, scanning it and emailing back, which is then ignored. They have frozen my on-line account without any email or warning. Just now I was on hold on for over two hours before the call was cancelled, back on again and waiting. Do not touch this bank, if you are with this bank move.

I wanted to make a payment a week ago for my phone bill, ho-ewer i wast able as my card didnt went trough, once i called bank i was told that my card has been frauded , i explained that it was me who was using the card for jd sports , any how I told that i just want to pay bill for the phone and she told me that i CANT, after long arguments she let me to pay the bill for my phone and told me that she will order new card, i was ok with that, however i asked if i can use this card to buy food and travel home, she said yes, and also that i will be able to take the cash....next day morning i went to the coffee shop and i was with work colleagues and my card declined i was so embarrassed ..after work i wanted to go home when i went to the bus card was declining again, so i went to nearest atm and wanted to take the cash, once i put card in the cash point there was a message than my card frauded and it was swollen /taken by atm,so I left with no card and money as it was Friday after working hours and none of the HSBC banks open Saturday and Sunday. i called bank and complained that i was told that i will be able to use my money while new card on the way but nevertheless my card was taken by cash machine , so i left with no cash no card, i have no familly here i am walking to work every day i cancelled my plans and i also had usines flights and many things regarding work and payments , i have been told that new card will arrive 3-5 working busines days hoewer nothing received yet after 5 days, when i called ONE MORE TIME today, on the phone i understoon that card wasnt ordered at all and she told me that i need to wait 5 more working days which is almost 2 weeks ...i have no word how much ,stress, confusion it cost for me also in regards of my work , business , and all kind of things, only my phone calls to you cost me almost 50£ also i wast able to make many payments and i am told to wait 5 more working days thats terrible that 3 people couldn't order the cards by mistake , and i want a compensation because it cost me a lot of damage not only money wise but physically and mentally.

HSBC Bloody useless bank! Been waiting nearly 12 weeks for bounce back loan, chased sign-off docs, signed them three weeks ago, was told money would be in account within 48 hours, still nothing! AND that is after chasing it up upteen times, Bank Manager been on the case for last week, he's getting no-where, apparently. Anyone thinking of joining this bank should think twice, as I know lots of people leaving it! I have been with the bank for 35 years, when it was Midland Bank, since becoming HSBC, it has slowly gone down hill to an incompetent mess!

Poor service and complex processes

Bank that follows through and delivers

Disgraceful service, lost certified documents that had been provided as part of a 10 year safeguarding review, then attempted to shut down my account and froze all my money while doing so. Told me it would take 5 days to even accept a complaint to get money back. Staff deeply unhelpful. Many days wasted on the phone and going into the branch and after reassurances the issue had been dealt with and it was their mistake, they restarted the whole thing 4 months later and attempted to shut down the account again. Avoid this bank and do yourself and your business a favour.

Despite being an HSBC Customer for 30 years with a Mortgage with HSBC it still took 6 months to open a business bank account. Complete mess from start to finish. Local branch Canary Wharf failure to respond to account opening request made locally in branch and over email. Fobbed us off to another branch as "too busy". Great local branch manager in Stratford but arms tied. Complete various paper forms in person for multiple directors, return twice to branch to bring further information not requested before first meeting. Then radio silence. Had to chase branch for follow up. Finally an update / delay tactics by asking us to submit more information to branch. Account opening documents, cards, security cards sent late. First letter from bank wants welcome letter but an apology letter for not sending out the account terms and conditions. Most awful disjointed and lackadaisical customer experience. Finally get into bank account and the web app is the same old clunky unresponsive product HSBC have been hosting for the last 10 years. Main reason we opened withHSBC was for foreign exchange which you have to pay additional monthly charge for we only discovered after opening even though we mentioned to business manager it was the primary reason were opening. Doubt he even knew they had started charging for it. We opened an account with a Neo Bank competitor Starling - seamless onboarding, responsive customer centred team. App is modern and easy to use and offers continual new advances. For Foreign exchange we use Transferwise. When time is money for your business avoid HSBC as unnecessary time sink. Why trudge when you can sprint.

We are a business customer and I so wish we weren't!
1) Their online banking service is archaic and has the functionality of a fridge.
2) Telephone banking is OK but lengthy - hence the 1 star!
3) But MOST annoying is the level of detailed PERSONAL info they need from you for 'SAFEGUARDING' your account ie. protecting it from fraud.
Do we look a day old?
We've been customers for 6 years - so if what they say is true, for the past 6 years we have been exposed to all sorts of potential fraud scams and goodness knows what!
The level of personal info they NEED could not possibly all be required to safeguard our account from fraud, but WOW what a great collection of insights they now have about us - we could have refused but they CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT DOWN if you DO!
If I had the time I would have changed banks, but with regret we have passed on everything and are now deeply suspicious of their motives and ethics.

I didn't even manage to complete my application for a business account but from the experience I'd had, indicated I had a lucky escape. Took days for steps of the process to progress. Told they needed more information after sitting on application for a week. When I asked what that was, they didn't know. I asked for them to call me back when they found out, but they didn't. Chased for more info to be put on hold for 45 mins, hung up and rang back to find their systems had gone down and I'd been left on hold, each time no one seemed to care or even apologise for the delays and poor communication. I was hung up on twice by their call centre staff (first time because my daughter was crying and I needed a moment to calm her, second time right at the end of this charade because I closed the application due to the poor experience and was in the middle of asking to be put through to the right department to make a complaint... I didn't get the chance!). Avoid HSBC Business Banking at ALL costs. I've spoken to several other people since who had similar experiences.
