After just one year, my policy renewal increased by over 51%, despite the fact that my dog is young, has had no claims, no injuries, no illnesses, and no ongoing health concerns. When I queried this excessive increase, I was simply told, “your dog is older” — my dog is four years old. I raised a formal complaint and explicitly requested that it be escalated to a manager, only to receive a response from a complaints handler, not management. The reply was the same generic, scripted response, with no meaningful explanation or willingness to properly review the issue. They are now at war with me - that is only how I can describe it. I spoke with them at length last year and agreed alterations to Sums Insured on Contents/Art etc. They did not do it and sent me a Renewal this year with no changes. They promised to phone me back following my complaints on various issues but failed to do so. I e-mailed them twice, chasing. They ignored those. I phoned them again asking they escalate my complaint. They now refuse to adjust the Sum Insured on Building even though I sent them a professional report from a Specialist with their calculations. They re-sent me the Renewal quote again, but it still does not show the requested edits to Sums Insured on Contents etc notified and agreed with them last January. After a major order went wrong due to misleading information on their website, and many hours of my time wasted, I escalated the issue all the way to the CEO office. Senior staff agreed with every fact I presented — yet still offered no meaningful customer service or resolution. Their idea of a “gesture”? If I drove an hour to my nearest store, they would give me a cup of tea and a slice of cake. I found this genuinely insulting and completely inappropriate given the situation. My wife and I had even asked for John Lewis vouchers for our wedding because we trusted the brand. Now we want nothing to do with them. It’s astonishing that Amazon outperforms them on every level, especially customer care — something John Lewis was once famous for. They’re finished for me, and I’ll share this experience with friends and family. If this is how they operate now, I wouldn’t be surprised if the company itself is finished in the future. Had a heated discussion with a representative of their complaints department, who informed me that 'some' banks had updated there lists. Some.... is not 100%. Eventually First Direct managed to send a test payment successfully, but it should not have been such a convoluted manner. I should have been able to set NewDay as a new bill, and not encountered all these issues. Newday just blamed First Direct, but was unable to provide any information for me to challenge First Direct with. Having never missed a payment with John Lewis, I will be applying for a different credit card.
