Robbed twice

1
I am disabled and need care in the home. Unfortunately, someone has taken advantage of this fact and thieved from my home. These personal items weren't on show, meaning whoever took them had the full intention to do so. However, this is to discuss my jewelry claim, and not the circumstances that lead to this claim - beyond some idea of context. I've lost everything, barring a single ring that was left. I was completely honest in the information I provided, including the value of the jewelry on the date of purchase. I am insured at a rate of 10.000 per item, but as I'm aware, two of my rings have pushed this rate. I understand and accept that this is my fault; I've let my insurance pass this rate without realising the policy had since changed. I was further passed forwards to Hallmark to have my claim dealt with, and though the staff were nice, I could not believe however the absurd way at which they asked me for the size of my diamonds - I was genuinely asked how many pen tips it would take to reach the size of my diamond. I wasn't really sure how to answer and just told them in the proper unit of measurement - millimeters. After going through the ordeal of explaining not just my items but the jewelry left by my late mum, was then left to the evaluation at which I feel I was robbed again. £18,900 after the £100 is taken off the initial £19,000, of which wouldn't replace even two of the rings stolen. I was then a given a choice of two jewelry shops to use none of which are within two hours driving time from my home.I have since refused the settlement and was told it was none negotiable. I contacted M&S who seem happy to take my money each month but do not want to pay fair compensation. In the meantime, I looked over the sites of both jewellery stores and not one could replace my jewellery to the quality of my stolen jewelry. It appears that either M&S doesn't seem to have any control over the decisions being made, or they're simply don't care adding to their customers' problems. Unfortunately when robbed I lost everything including proof but I am insured for £10.000 per item. If this is the way forward why am I paying insurance. Reviewed on: 17th August 2023

Shrinking premiums!

I initially went for M&S home insurance based on good scores by Which? and a low quote, helped by a large cashback offer through Quidco. I haven't had to make a claim with them, so I can't recommend them on that basis, but I have been very pleasantly surprised that they have reduced their already low premium every year, so I have stuck with them. Worth the money

Worth paying a little more for excellent cover. Reviewed on: 7th July 2023

Why do I bother paying insurance?

1
Came home today to find a shattered window pane in the full length panel next to the front door. No obvious cause. Rang M & S insurance expecting it to be a straightforward claim, only to be told we're not covered, that if it had been a bird strike there would be no problem claiming. We don't know what caused our window to shatter. We do know that it is dangerous and worrying - it could collapse and fall inwards at any moment, putting our family and our pets at risk. What are we supposed to do? Lock them all away in bedrooms and bathrooms indefinitely? Our house is open plan, we cannot isolate the area, it leads directly onto our only living space. Appalled, upset and disgusted by our treatment. Will be looking elsewhere for our insurance now. Reviewed on: 16th June 2023

Legal Cover Claim

1
Really poor service. M&S have REALLY let me down. I initiated a legal claim using my legal cover as part of my home insurance last year. The legal claims are handled by Arc Legal. It is now March 2023 and finally, Arc have stated they will not be persuing my claim as M&S have identified small print in their terms and conditions which means they cannot proceed. I have pointed out that the smallprint is irrelevant in my example. The hassle and stress involved is completely unaccaptable and I would not recommend using M&S for your home insurance a when you come to need them, they will let you down and quibble. Really disappointing. Reviewed on: 22nd March 2023

Absolutely terrible

I made a claim for my laptop with M&S home insurance, they outsource this to Aviva who then use Greenwood Technology, in the space of 6-8 months my MacBook Pro has gone back and forth because they couldn’t repair the first 2 times. Awful services I need my MacBook for work. Reviewed on: 25th April 2022

ANGELA

ANGELA very very helpful, understanding & polite. knowledge is second to none. Answered all my questions, took me through the whole process. We should have more operators like her answering phones. She should be a supervisor, teaching others how its done. Very well done you and thank you. Reviewed on: 27th February 2022

Run by computers, not actual people

1
Every year they do an auto home insurance renewal, it always goes up and there is no justification or explanation. No willingness to discuss and a general computer says no response. I couldn't recommend them any less, awful company and awful service Reviewed on: 21st February 2022

An expensive insurance you can't rely on

1
If a theft of a locked bike, behind a locked door isn't covered than what is? We paid almost 50 quid per month and I trusted the Marks and Spencer brand but when my locked bike that was stored in the stairways of my house, behind the locked front door was stolen - I got no money back for it. M&S seemed to really put an effort into finding lupe holes in their policy to rip you off. I signed up with a John Lewis - pay 20 quid per month and they confirmed they would've paid me for this specific case. Don't waste your money here. Reviewed on: 18th October 2021

Possibly the worse home insurance you could go for

Had to make a claim on a iPhone XR Was Told to send it n to a sister company,! Did research and decided to have my screen repaired in apple store . They mar led this a a lost to me and cancelled my insurance. With out a letter or any notice! I only noticed due to payment going in to my account .? Terrible customer service. I did decide to go to Marks & Spencer’s because I always thought they had a bit of class but after having home insurance with them I realise that we are talking out there arse Reviewed on: 26th June 2021
