Review of the Nationwide, FlexDirect:

Great interest rate for a limited time.

4
Nationwide Flex Direct current account gives a fabulous interest rate of 5% gross for the first 12 months, reverting to 1% interest after this period ends. To gain these rates you have to pay into the account at least £1000 per month. We decided to switch our ordinary Nationwide Flexclusive current account in order to receive this higher interest rate. The switch went smoothly, with no problems whatsoever, and we received the advertised rate on account balance up to £2500. Unfortunately the higher rate is reduced after one year, and customers receive the lesser APR of 1% interest. I would recommend this account - even though the higher rate is available for only one year, customers receive 1% following this. Previously we had been receiving no interest whatsoever on our current account. However, for those willing to keep switching current account deals with different banks, there are much better interest rates on offer. Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

There is just one catch

I’ve never really had any problems with nationwide - there’s just one feature of their banking that feels very antiquated. Any time you need to send money to a new person you have to have the little portable pin device to verify the transfer. Out for dinner and need to send your share of the bill? Well unless you have your pin device on you, you’re not going to be able to do this there and then. It’s an annoyance and can be inconvenient Reviewed on: 9th March 2023

I like the online banking service and find the card reader service very reassuring when checking if it is me that is making changes to my account. Reviewed on: 1st March 2023

Great service, let down by App

Have had an account with Nationwide my whole life. It's a great bank for customer service, the experience with them is only let down by the available functionality on their App and online. Reviewed on: 28th February 2023

Ethical and people-focussed

Despite other banks offering significant sums to swap to them, I really don't want to leave Nationwide - I want my money to be used ethically and to build communities, and i think Nationwide achieves this. They are also very responsive to customer needs, e.g. adding the ability to instantly save rounded-up amounts from spending and now giving 5% cashback. Reviewed on: 28th February 2023

Can't fault them. Good app and decent current account features Reviewed on: 27th February 2023

poor branch opening times

opening times in branch especially on weekends is awful. App is okay but they still need card readers for new payees which seems quite old fashioned now especially with biometrics availability. Would not reccommend Reviewed on: 8th February 2023

So helpful

I've often had to message to ask questions and always get a prompt response, or even phone call from my local branch. Reviewed on: 5th February 2023
