Review of the Nationwide, FlexDirect:

Ethical banking for the people

I like this building society's ethics. Customers service is always very friendly and helpful. I really appreciated the 5% cashback on spending in February, March and April. The heavy use of card ready is a bit annoying but they've been taking steps to reduce the amount of time the card reader is needed Reviewed on: 10th April 2023

2 years in a row I have recieve £200 just for having her account. The removal of the need for the keypad has also greatly increased the user experience. The arranged overdraft also means I know I'm covered if the need comes (not that I recommend using it) Reviewed on: 21st November 2024

The best bank in the UK for all their products

Category was for FlexDirect, but this applies to all their accounts and savings. I've been with them for a fair few years now, and never had an issue. The app always works, the agents are UK based and quick to reach on the phone, and the few times you need to go into branch; there's many on the highstreet and helpful within. They're also ethical and reward their members, recently giving a switching incentive even for existing members. The app allows you to search transactions by cost or name which is very helpful. Nationwide have no concern for members banking experience. The IT systems used are woeful both from a user POV and back end. I am worried that the whole system is so old the security must be really shocking. Reviewed on: 26th June 2024

If I could give zero stars I would......

30 years a member, 6 different types of a account and over £12,000 currently with this 'mutual', but I'm not 'invested' enough as a member? This is the same board who preach about being a mutual, where 'we are all valued', yet there is no say about the £600 MILLION being paid to Mr Branson esq? This in exchange for a bank he controversially got for nothing and is probably worth next to nothing now. While the sanctimonious fat cat board have their snouts in the trough, denying members a say in a questionable takeover, only a minority of others benefit from 'their' largesse, other societies are awaiting my accounts. Once my ISA matures that's where its all going too, **** the self-serving Nationwide! Reviewed on: 26th June 2024

Moved for the incentive stayed for the service!

The switching fee enticed me to move to Nationwide but since I've been a customer they seem to have improved the app so much that it has made me stay, plus the £100 fair share payment is an added bonus and means switching to anyone else doesn't actually make sense! Reviewed on: 4th June 2024

Ethical, honest, family banking.

I've been with Nationwide since I was just 14 and have never had a bad experience with them in nearly 25 years. I've several accounts with them and a mortgage and home insurance. I trust them unlike many other banks and most importantly they aren't as bad as HSBC, Barclays etc. in investing in new fossil fuels etc. They have a degree of ethics. Reviewed on: 28th May 2024

I have been a customer of Nationwide all my life, literally. Introduced by my parrents at birth I have always found them to be personable and approachable. The Flex direct account is easy to manage and ties in really well with other Nationwide products. I have found the account so useful I have recommended it to others. It's simple yet effective.
