Review of the NatWest, Business Banking:

Disgusting anti-Scottish sentiment policy

1
I tried to open a NatWest Business account via their online registration process. This was a long and tedious process, going around in circles trying to upload my ID and being refused on several occasions, eventually the same files were approved just because I cropped them a little ! I had to wait until the following day to find out by email that my application had been declined because my business trades within Scotland. Utterly disgusting behaviour from a so called United Kingdom bank. This is the actual wording I received in their email - "Unfortunately, you aren’t eligible to apply for a Natwest Business Account as you need to have an existing relationship with Natwest or your business trading location Should be within England or Wales." note the 'should' being emphasised with a capital. This response I received after I had supplied my Scottish personal and business addresses, surely in this day and age, their computer systems could point out an all important anti-Scottish sentiment policy. NatWest is shortened from National Westminster Bank Plc. The Cambridge online dictionary definition for 'National' is - 'relating to or typical of a whole country and its people, rather than to part of that country or to other countries' Brittanica.com website defines the United Kingdom as - 'United Kingdom, island country located off the northwestern coast of mainland Europe. The United Kingdom comprises the whole of the island of Great Britain—which contains England, Wales, and Scotland—as well as the northern portion of the island of Ireland' Natwest.com website terms and conditions state - 'Unless otherwise stated on the product pages, the services and products on this website are intended for use by residents of the United Kingdom (“UK”) only and are not aimed at or intended for use by residents of any other jurisdiction. " Natwestgroup.com 'About Natwest Group' section states - "NatWest Group is a UK-focused banking organisation" I find it extremely disappointing that in 2024, I cannot open an online banking account simply because my business trades within Scotland. The National Westminster Back Plc has no right to claim that they are "National" or a "UK-focused banking organisation" Reviewed on: 10th September 2024

Nat West provides a good straightforward service

5
My business bank account is easy to use, the layout is approachable, the service is well supported. The international business I do is always completed without complication and the follow up service is reliable. The costs are low for a really good service Reviewed on: 25th February 2024

4 weeks and account not opened

1
Was trying to open a businesses account. It took ages for a reply. Then been asked several times for same thing. At very time was waiting several days for reply that usually leads to another question. After 4 weeks an account wasn't opened so I went to another bank and opened it in one day. Chaotic, unsupported, disinterested, unhelpful, and a significant negative impact on the business. Never will I bank with NatWest again Reviewed on: 16th February 2024

Horrified.

Having worked in the sector as both an employee and a consultant I am quite sure Natwest is the worst performing bank in the UK. Reviewed on: 19th December 2023

They charge you for literally everything!

1
It's ridiculous the fees they charge you, for literally using the account on a day to day basis, baring in mind you already pay a fee for having the account in the 1st place. You get charged for every payment made into your account, moving money from 1 account to another, every payment out of thee account. I had a planned overdraft (which I paid a yearly fee to have) to the get charged £50 for going into it by a few pence and clearing it the same day! I've just moved to starling business account and it's free! Yes completely free! No hiden or extra charges. They offer a 'switch' so you don't have to faff around having to change direct debits ect. Although natwest charged me jyst over £25 to close the account. I wish I left them years ago! Reviewed on: 31st October 2023

Dont open a business account with NatWest.

I run a small family business hotel. We receive non refundable booking deposits of 50% from customers who want to book a stay or event at our property. One of our customers decided to cancel his booking three days before the date of the event. He understood that it is a nonrefundable deposit. Not to mention I had turned away another booking and therefore lost revenue there. And the lost revenue from him not going ahead with his event was difficult on cash flow. As a way to claim back the 50% deposit, he has gone directly to his bank and said it is a fraudulent charge. Natwest, without doing any fact-finding from us, have restricted my account and blocked me out of the online app! How am I supposed to function a business and pay wages with no access to my account? I have all the evidence to show that this person knew the terms of the booking. How they can restrict my account on the basis of someone else fraudulently claiming that they don’t owe us the money, is absolutely crazy to me. If my business wasn’t so entangled with NatWest with all standing orders going through them, I would’ve shut it down in a heartbeat, horrible experience . I will be shutting down this account eventually, but they’ve tied my hands behind my back for the next 10 days … I am furious. As a sidenote, their online banking stopped working on my computer inexplicably a month ago. And yet it works on my iPad. When I went to the branch to ask, they have no clue why. Their support team is awful. Reviewed on: 6th October 2023

A pathetic business banking relationship

1
The business profile team are hopeless. I’m surprised they have a review rating of over 3. If I could I would mark them 0. We have had our internet banking suspended since 28/7, it’s now 24/8. All of the documentation required was uploaded in stages to fully comply since 11/8. On 11/8 I was told that the lifting of restrictions could take up to 48 hours. I called back on 14/8, 16/8, 18/8, 21/8 and 23/8 to be palmed off with the same 48 hours nonsense. Clearly the business profile team either do not have a clue, or just treat you like an idiot. We have been without banking now for nearly one month. A great way to try to run a business. Reviewed on: 24th August 2023
