Random Charges

1
I had a student account with Natwest, which had an interest free overdraft. Once I had left uni, it became a graduate account, with a £500 interest free overdraft. Recently (around 2 or 3 months ago), I used the overdraft facilities by £150. It was well within the range I had agreed with the bank. The following week, I'd paid it back off, so my account was balanced. I didn't need to use the account for a couple of months, so it sat untouched since then. After deciding to install bank apps, I found that my account was no longer balanced, but was now around £13 into my overdraft. I'd been charged £6 per month for the last two months, because my account was in the overdraft now. I checked to see what caused it, and it was a random 50p charge from Natwest (labelled as an 'interest fee'). This was charged two weeks after I had already balanced my account, so I owed them nothing. It turned out that Natwest had now changed my account from a graduate to a current account, which did not have any interest free overdraft. I received no letters, emails, text messages or phone calls regarding this. The 50p charge for me using the overdraft for the week then took me into the overdraft, for which they then slapped another fee on me for. They charged me a fee because of their own fee. When I went into the bank, the first woman was completely unhelpful, and repeatedly told me that I would have to pay the charges (charges added well after the account was already balanced). She eventually got her manager, who finally said she could clear the charges, but she couldn't clear the charges that would come later. Yes, I'm going to be charged next month because I am currently in the overdraft because of their fees. I'm having to pay for their actions. The most frustrating part was that the manager gave me an option: she can clear the current charges and I pay the later charges OR she can stop the later charges and I pay the current fee. She failed to mention that if I paid the current fee, it would cost me the £13, but if I paid the later fee, it would cost me almost half that at £7. Even when I said to her that I would clearly be paying the cheaper amount, she refused to acknowledge it and kept acting like the choices were equal in cost. It's that sort of slippery, sneaky behaviour that means Natwest will charge you for a balanced account and then try to pretend that either option they offer is equal and helpful. It is no different to theft. Never use this bank. Reviewed on: 28th April 2016

Simply the Best!

I have been with Natwest since I was 11 years old, I'm now nearly 28 and they have yet to give me a reason to leave! Definitely would recommend to any students - their student account is fantastic! Reviewed on: 18th February 2016

General experience

I've never had any issues with them, except when I wasn't allowed a free railcard they'd previously said I was entitled to because they had "ran out". Saying that, it's been easy to set up/change accounts (e.g. when I became a student), and their online banking is really simple to use. Reviewed on: 16th February 2016

Free railcard for postgraduate study

4
Natwest honored my free student railcard when I moved on to postgraduate study - I had to extend my student account but the railcard offer was no longer available. They honored it anyway because I opened the account when it was on offer three years ago, which I thought was pretty good. Reviewed on: 16th February 2016

A no frills account with no nonsense and no real benefits

4
The NatWest Graduate Account is what you're automatically moved to once you've been a graduate for a couple of years and had a NatWest Student account previously. It's a no fuss, no frills account which works well but the only downside is that there is really no benefits to having this account over another which might offer better interest rates or incentives. Always straight forward and helpful if I have questions!

5
I have been with Natwest ever since I started banking. I have heard many other people complain about their banking experiences and have always felt lucky that Natwest are a helpful and friendly bank. The offers of overdrafts and plans to pay these overdrafts back after graduating are very easy to understand and are realistic. This is where Natwest differs from other banks-many other banks seem to set unrealistic targets for graduates earning little on their new careers and don't always seem to understand what they are paying back or being charged on. Good choice for after uni

4
Good choice, they don't harass you for money back or anything . get up to £1000 overdraft in first year, £500 second year after. Reviewed on: 8th February 2016

Excellent product but time to move on

5
Reduced interest and charges made this a winning proposition when my course ended but after two years, having this account limited both my overdraft possibilities and any personal loan. So thanks and onto a fee paying current account now - again with NatWest. The app, the branch network,... Unbeatable. Reviewed on: 5th February 2016

Great customer service

Great account, great rates. I lost my bank card and Natwest immediately cancelled and helped me withdraw money until my new card came. Reviewed on: 24th January 2016

Overall quite good

I find NatWest to offer a good service in general. A couple of computer says no moments but other than that a no thrills account that works. Reviewed on: 2nd October 2015
