Abysmal service

Paid several thousand into my POFS account via linked bank account 6 days ago - still no sign of it in my POFS account. The phone help line just replays a 'transactions are being processed' message. Absolutely dreadful/slow online system. Beware! Reviewed on: 22nd August 2023

A warning to all stay clear. I have been trying on and off to move my matured bond to a linked account it is proving impossible, the system never seems to work. Next port of call ombudsman. Reviewed on: 31st July 2023

Incompetent system failures

Trying to open a joint online savings account: I got all the way through the application process with no problems to the very end, when I was asked to provide a 6-digit security number for each of us. The number simply would not enter; no matter what I tried it would only take 3 digits and no more. If I tried to accept the randomly-generated number offered by my browser, it reduced it to two or one digits. With no other way forward I got on the phone and described my problem (which I had to explain several times). The assistant suggested I try refreshing the page. Unfortunately when I did that I lost the two User ID numbers we had just been given, as a blank screen came up saying 'We are experiencing a technical failure'. I asked the assistant if she could access the User ID numbers for us, but she couldn't. She suggested sending out two security numbers by post, so we had to wait 5 days. When they arrived, of course there was no ID number on the letters, so I was still unable to access the account to set them. I got on the phone once more, and the assistant suggested I at least look at one of the security numbers by peeling off the black strip. Second problem: There is no number there. They have sent out two sheets of A4 paper under separate cover, both with a plastic strip with a black pattern on it. I thought I might start again from scratch. But now the system has our details it is asking for my security number. I tried clicking on ‘Forgot login details', but that will just involve waiting another 5 days for another pair of blank sheets of paper. So we will put our money elsewhere. Difficult to open and wrong advice and emails sent. Closed account 2 days later

I thought that opening an online savings account was or should be easy. Certainly the Post Office does not agree with me. Having filled in the online forms and I sent them money from my nominated bank account. None of these bank transfer payments were shown as received by them on my opening savings account statement. I telephoned them and I was told they needed proof of ownership of my bank account, yet I had sent them payments from it. It appears The Post Office, Bank Of ireland, cannot verify accounts unlike UK Banks. I then received two emails from them saying my account had been opened but they had not received any funds. In fact they had, I telephoned them again about this matter and they told me that only payments sent before 5.00pm Monday to Friday would be added to my account by 5.00pm the following working day. To be sure that all was well and one payment had not been lost I sent another payment prior to 5.00pm. The following working day no credits had been made to my account. A further call to Post Office Savings revealed that one payment had been received but not credited because they had not received the proof of ownership of my nominated bank account with the account holders names written in full. My nominated bank account does not give full names on statements !! I had not sent this information because I had received 2 emails telling me my account was now open and to fund it within about 3 weeks or it would be closed. This request was despite them having received proof that my nominated bank account was used to sent them these payments. All customers service staff were polite and tried to be helpful ( Hence 2 Stars ) BUT it appears emails and phone call information were conflicting, I have little faith in using Post Office Savings and therefore I have cancelled my request for a savings account with them and closed the account. I am now awaiting my refunds of payments made which I am told might take 10 days by post. It appears they cannot even refund to the account they received funds from. Reviewed on: 16th June 2023

Ages to set up - now can't make a deposit!

1
It took two day (and my calling them) to run the legal checks on the information I provided them. It took a further four days (and my calling them) for them to issue me a six-digit security number Trying to make an initial deposit of £1.00, their website is far from intuitive as to how to do this, but I eventually discovered the bank account details to where payments should be made - only this account is not supported by my bank (HSBC) and I have been warned b HSBC this may be a fraudulent account and website.. Somewhere between HSBC and The Post Office / Bank of Ireland, there is a massive impasse and I'm just the poor sod trying to sort out where and how to initiate a workaround! Extremely disappointing - would rate as 0 stars if possible

I attempted to open an online savings account on 17th March. Received an email saying they they were completing security checks and would be in touch once these were completed. Contacted them via phone 2 weeks later having not heard anything and was connected to a cdll centre in India. I was told paperwork would be posted to me. This was surprising considering it is an online only account. As of today I have still received anything. If this is the lack of service provision before I have even opened the account I would not trust this organisation either my money. In contrast, I recently went through the stich process either Nat West and I cannot fault them. Extremely impressed and I have since opened a savings account with them. Their App is so easy to use and online support is responsive and very helpful. Would highly recommend. Reviewed on: 30th April 2023

Dire service

I opened my new Post Office savings account yesterday. After providing my personal details and receiving account information back, I was lead to a log in page. The log in page would not verify my details. I called the help desk and was told that I was trying to log in too soon as my account wasn’t on the system yet. I received an email asking me to log in and make a deposit this morning. Yet again, I couldn’t access it. I called help desk and this time was told that I had failed the verification questions and the operator could no longer speak to me and call back to speak to another operator. I called again, got an Indian call centre with a lady with poor English. Still no joy. I have decided that with all the choice of different banks that I would have to be crazy to sign up to a post office account and all it’s problems.. I have asked the post office to remove all of my details from its system. I could never recommend the third rate bank to anyone. Reviewed on: 23rd March 2023
