Ok I got locked out of my online account - no problem - easy enough to do at 03.00 in the morning, no problem wait until 09.00 and call them and they can unlock it again like every other bank? Think again. You have to wait for a LETTER TO BE POSTED (!) which can take up to 5 working days. They didn't care how urgent it was and refused to let me speak to a manager. When I asked for a complaints email address they gave me a PO Box in Armagh to write to. Joke. I now have to wait until I get a new number, log in and I will transfer the balance to my new account elsewhere. They have a very basic website and no App - so no facial recognition log-in. So just posting your details all over the place. Very risky and insecure. AVOID this Bank of Ireland Post Office set-up, they are well behind the times and I think very insecure, just downright inviting fraud. As a last ditch I asked them to just send the funds back from whence they came (a proper bank) and surprise surprise I was advised to write another letter - listing all the details someone would need to take anything therein. What a total joke. Reviewed on: 30th October 2024

Completely Incompetent customer support

1
Received a letter in the post notifying me of account maturity, and upon ringing to close it (which must be done over the phone for no really clear reason) I was told the address I answered was incorrect. How? I'm ringing you with a code from post sent to MY address. And to make it really hilarious, it turns out the stupid woman was looking at someone elses account on my call! Poor you! I almost got to ask my way into finding out about your details! In short. Open an account LITERALLY anywhere else, i beg of you, these guys are absolute morons from customer support right up to bankers. Go with a conventional bank. Not even an insane interest rate would justify their abysmal performance. Reviewed on: 3rd October 2024

Abysmal usability

1
Currently have a competitive interest rate for savings but the account usability is abysmal. Makes it as difficult as possible to transfer money in or withdraw, despite one of the USPs being that its an instant access savings. For any account changes they want you to post documentation to them, despite it being an online account. Also takes ages for withdrawls to process. Giving up and closing the account and won't be using Post Office banking again. Save yourself time and bank with someone else. Reviewed on: 15th July 2024

Very poor attempt at a banking service.

1
Very poor attempt at a banking service. ID, address and linked account checks are done manually by post. You have to post them all the documentation, which can take 14 working days. Deposits are not instant, they will take at least a week. They will close your account if inactive for 30 days which means that you'll need to make a deposit more than once a month (31 days in some months). Withdrawls can take two weeks. If you want to close your account (assuming they have not already done it for you!) they will send you a cheque within 14 working days which is actually three weeks in real terms, plus time for the post. Frequent technical issues with the website mean that accessing your account is a lottery. An example of 1970's banking in the 21st century. I should have read the other reviews and taken note. Very poor.

Very poor. Tried to open an online account. But could never put funds into the account. When I did speak to someone they said I had to post information to them. It was an online account. They just wanting us to use more services. Gave up and asked for account to be closed Reviewed on: 16th April 2024

Mostly solid

Good, had a competitive interest rate and I mostly had no issue with the account. Website was very basic but did the job fine. The only issue I had was when I tried to withdraw for the first time (did not even let me take out a few pound) - the website kept producing an uninformative error that told me to try again later. I had to call up to get the "lock" removed (after which withdrawals were no issue and were credited to my nominated account usually the following morning) which was fairly painless and the person who helped me was pleasant. If there is a danger of you needing to take out money, I would recommend trying first when you don't urgently need it to sort out this "lock" thing: I've seen other people talk about it and had more urgent situations than mine. Opened an account and heard nothing, received nothing, they didn’t ask for ID. I call them just over a month later and they told me the account had been closed due to no activity. Mistake by not checking reviews first. Very poor views all over the internet Reviewed on: 23rd January 2024

Unable to withdraw to pay my mortgage. Logged on no issuses just wont withdraw. After an hour waiting on the phone and being cut off I was told the account was susspended a year ago due to no activity, Its a savings account !!!!!!!! disgusted and will never use the post office for an account again Reviewed on: 29th December 2023

"easy access" savings account with no access to your savings

1
Several months after opening an easy access online savings account and depositing a significant amount of money, I attempted to make a withdrawal, only to be presented with the message "TRANSFER CANNOT BE APPLIED AT THIS TIME" On calling the 0800 number provided I was told that there was a technical fault with my account and "there's nothing I can do".... I filed an official complaint which was effectively ignored with the response "The complaints team is not trained to deal with such complaints" I remain unable to access my savings or close the account and my only course of action now would seem to be via the financial ombudsman.
