Review of the Saga, Home Insurance:

No hassle easy to deal with

5
Very easy company to deal with and good value. Reviewed on: 29th September 2021

Can you acually contact them?

1
Both my 90 year old mother and myself have been trying to contact SAGA by phone re her insurance policy.. Following a recorded message from the CE asking for feedback at the end of the call it is then impossible to get through to get any kind of service to feedback on. Do not use SAGA if. you want any type of phone contact Reviewed on: 20th July 2023

Unprofessional

1
My parents have used Saga for many years. They had to make a claim for the first time at the end of January. The assessor came out agreed that the claim was valid, our contractor requested a higher amount and this is the last we heard from the underwriters until I got involved over 1 month later to chase on behalf of my parents. The claims assessor and the senior claims case handler were contacted and they needed to decide which of 2 amounts on the system were going to be offered (the one being too high in their minds). I said that they needed to officially, in writing, offer the amount that they are happy with to my dad and I'm sure he would be happy to proceed. I added that the total lack of communication for 6 weeks was shocking and unacceptable. THE WALL HAD COLLAPSED BETWEEN THE WET ROOM AND THE KITCHEN, the ONLY FUNCTIONING SHOWER FACILITY IN MY ELDERLY PARENTS' HOME. I explained that my almost 78-year-old dad has cancer and is catheterised as well as being full time carer to my mum (76) who has dementia, and we are all very stressed and require a response and a speedy resolution. The call handlers were lovely but unfortunately another month elapsed, with several emotional calls from myself (a single working mum (NHS), each call taking up to 1 hour out of my day) AND I was also copied into an email to the Claims Handler and Assessor - I sent several emails over the course of this month, starting off politely, explaining the awful circumstances that we found ourselves in and requesting an update however, all to no avail. I sent several more emails, increasingly desperate, detailing my parents cancer and dementia, again 0 response. Finally, a call handler did their job for them, offering the lower amount which we accepted. To say I am disgusted by the total lack of communication, their total disregard for our horrific personal circumstances and their inability to respond to one of my emails officially is an understatement. Appalling. Horrific. Cold. Unprofessional. Uncaring. Underhand. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR INSURANCE. Reviewed on: 22nd April 2023

Quote £212. Actually £335

1
As my home insurance is due Saga sent a written quote based on my details previously given. Called with reference number and was told that cost is not correct achievable and when my details were inserted came out at £335. Queried this discrepancy and no explanation given. Think it was low to get you to call then give you the real cost and hope you agree. As it was a lot more than my renewal I declined. Reviewed on: 11th March 2023

VULNERABLE INSURER ?. AVIOD THIS COMPANY

1
I am elderly and live alone with various health issues. A double glazed window in my only habitable bedroom had been irreparably damaged and could not be closed. It was consequently cold at night. I informed SAGA my insurer. They had passed the policy on to LV Insurance who in turn had allegedly passed this particular parcel on to Highway Insurance, who I found out dealt exclusively with vehicle insurance. Throughly confused a this point I went back to Saga for advice. Namely WHO IS MY INSURER?.Given my vulnerable status my claim was accelerated at warp speed to the highly inappropriately named Rapid Response Team. Over the next five days and colder nights I regularly contacted the Rapid Response Team for the name of my insurer. They replied several times by email, that they were working on this apparently intractable conundrum. A trifle upset by their laid back approach,I emailed a complaint to the CEO’s office. They replied five minutes later with the answer it was LV. Insurance. I suppose an apology was out of the question. Reviewed on: 9th February 2023

If your over 90, elderly and with a terminal illness. Don’t use Saga. From the moment the plumber arrived it went downhill. Disgusting service. If my mam didn’t have family with her god knows how she would have survived. Reviewed on: 22nd October 2022

Take too long to approve and then incapable of getting repairs done in a timely manner Reviewed on: 17th September 2022

Disingenuous and dishonest and try their best to avoid making progress with a claim

1
They were happy to take money from me for years and increase my policy cost at renewal. When I put in a claim in 2021, they did everything they could to delay getting anything done. They would just send people round to take a look at the job and cost it up, but no one did anything. They also asked me to find people to cost up too. I gave up in the end and cancelled my policy and went with another company. Reviewed on: 5th September 2022

Emergency? What emergency?

No electric--box kept tripping and couldn't isolate the problem. Fridge freezer rapidly defrosting, rang Saga 'emergency line' hung on for 8 minutes only to be cut off. Rang back hung on for another 8 - you guessed cut off! Tried once more .. no reply after 10 minutes. Phoned a friend. will cancel policy tomorrow Reviewed on: 24th August 2022
