Review of the Santander, Everyday Current Account:

Reliable, trustworthy and honest brand.

My husband and I set this account up 5 years ago, to manage our household finances. In the last 5 years we have had a small overdraft on and off and never had any problems with this. The fees are very reasonable. When someone tried to use our card fraudulently, after a big company had a security breech and failed to tell us, they called us immediately. They noticed a very small transaction of just $7 in a hotel abroad and they promptly declined it and stopped the fraudsters potentially accessing the thousands that were in our account on payday! The customer service is fantastic and you can even send them messages about certain things via the online banking portal which is great if you remember a query at 2am! Reviewed on: 25th August 2015

The Everyday Account meets most banking needs althou...

The Everyday Account meets most banking needs although if I had one complaint it would be that the display in the app shows a "Balance" and a "balance inc. Pending" which causes confusion when pay appears on the balance but not on balance inc. Pending even though the payment is literally pending. It should say "Available balance" instead or "Balance including outgoing pending". Reviewed on: 27th January 2024

I have banked with Santandar for several years and recently had 2 experiences with a potential scam situation where money was taken from my current account every month for a transaction I didn’t subscribe too, the fraud team were amazing ( special thanks to Imran) my concern was dealt with efficiently and spontaneously, I can’t recommend this bank enough, I cannot recommend their commitment to investigating potential frausters enough Reviewed on: 3rd January 2024

Great customer service and remote banking services

The phone line has good opening hours when you want to speak to staff and their automated service is efficient and easy to use. Their app is easy to use and very functional; as is their web-site. Their overdraft facility has been extended for me over recent years, as my needs have changed and my good track record for credit management is recognized. Reviewed on: 29th June 2023

They see fraud everywhere except where it is

This may have been the 123 Current Account at the time but that makes no difference. I have always thought of Santander as the only UK bank that has not been involved in a banking scandal in the last 15 years or so. Then they were recently fined for carrying out inadequate money laundering checks. They prevented me paying a small amount of money to an aspiring petroleum engineering student in Tanzania to enable him to take a very low cost course in his own country (after an initial request through LinkedIn for help to study in the UK), They were convinced it was fraud and after a long conversation with a teller in my branch, joined by someone else, a manager perhaps, I was told that that was the end of the matter. The next day they sent the police to my door, terrifying my wife! If my passport had not run out I could have made the payment with no problem through Moneygram at my local Post Office. The student spoke to his pastor who financed him to study at the Beijing Petroleum University and remotely after Covid. Reviewed on: 20th April 2023
