Review of the Scottish Building Society, Savings:

Just opened up a Cash ISA.

Just opened up a Cash ISA. My wife and I have quite a few ISAs and opening this account was the hardest of them all, by far! Took a week from opening the account to receiving my login information so that I can move funds in. You only have 14 days in which to do so and I've already wasted a week. The service desk promised to email me the account details and never did. To transfer an existing ISA into this account you need to manually download and complete a Transfer Form and post it to them - others do this online and all completed within 24 hours! No confirmation that they received the form so I don't know if it will move across - time will tell! Another call tomorrow I think. When it did finally arrive, their account information letter is not very clear. To transfer funds in from your bank they detail 2 account numbers are required, one for the company and a unique one for your actual account. They don't make it clear which the second account number is for as it just says "Your account number". Obvious when you know the answer, but the letter could simply say "Your unique SBS account number found at the top of page 1". So their business practices seem to be as they were in the 1980s! Not impressed and wont be using them again. One positive, their interest rate is competitive. Reviewed on: 6th November 2024

Super, duper, great

Good service, I like to support local businesses. One area for improvement: on maturity of the bond, 17/07/24 payment should be made by faster payment thus in the customers account on 18/07/24. Payment was received on 19/07/24, faster payment is the norm in this industry now. Reviewed on: 25th July 2024

Money transfers are slow to appear. Online service is dated - applying to add accounts, really? Desperately needs an app!. Reviewed on: 25th July 2024

After a difficult and lengthy ISA transfer with many hiccups, the branch manager in Glasgow was extremely helpful in resolving this. Reviewed on: 25th July 2024

Friendly, efficient, traditional

I like having a local branch in Glasgow, Queen Street staff are friendly, courteous and efficient. The Scottish Building Society has a traditional feel and the customer feels valued. It's a mutual society, not a bank. Very low profile though, publicity could be improved to attract new members. Reviewed on: 25th July 2024

Traditional, personal service

On our visit to the Glasgow Queen Street branch today we met with a really helpful employee and all went well. Personally, I like the fact that the Society is relatively small and one does not deal with staff in faraway places. Reviewed on: 25th July 2024
