Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Stepchange help people to get out of debt.

Stepchange are there for people like myself who accumulated debt I’ve had no trouble keeping my money in check with them and they provided a debt management plan, every time I get paid my UC a payment goes across to them and I can get in with my life knowing if ever there is a problem with my creditors Stepchange are either a phone call or email away to help resolve matters. I’m protected from the demands of the creditors and can have a chance to relax from the stressful situation being it debt became. It’s a bit complex at first to register with debt management but once it’s in place it’s all smooth sailing, no more demanding creditors bothering you it’s all handled so you can relax and be left alone in peace with a smaller monthly payment all efficiently put in place and proper experienced team to help if needed. They also offer other debt solutions not only debt management plan, some clear all the debt completely if you are eligible. Reviewed on: 30th May 2026

I approached Stepchange around 4 years ago for help and advice, they were so helpful with regard to solving my £20,000 debt. An affordable repayment plan was set up and now I'm so happy to say that in a few months my debt will be fully repaid. Stepchange has been fully supportive of me on this journey. Make the call

I was scammed badly, I tried to deal with it but it was overwhelming. I built myself up and rang Stepchange. Once I spoke to the case worker a huge weight lifted and I definitely saw a light at the end.I would advise anyone not to wait but make that call. Reviewed on: 30th May 2026

Thank you step change,

I was in a bad place with debt and felt there was no where to turn, the weight on my shoulders was extreme and with a family to look after it seemed impossible to escape. Then I found step change…. They discussed my finances and organised a debt plan to make manageable payments to my creditors. Wow how the weight lifted, I felt there was light at the end of the tunnel and I was able to afford to live. Life saving.

Life saving. During a desperate time when I could see no way out of my situation, the team at StepChange helped give me hope and come up with a plan. I will forever be grateful to these incredible people. They are calm, professional, informative and to me… they were life savers as I could not see a way out. I am now almost debt free and my mental and personal health has been restored due to the help these people gave me. They dealt directly with the banks I owed money to and gave me a step by step plan on how to become debt free. The words to properly thank these people for what they have done, do not exist. I got my myself into a bad financial situation with repayment loans and credit cards. I contacted stepchange who gave me a form to fill in listing all your debts and your income and they pretty much take over and contact all your creditors. Reviewed on: 30th May 2026
