Review of the Tesco Bank, Car Insurance:

Consistently good

I am very happy with my car insurance from Tesco, who I have been with since I passed my test six years ago. Since then, they have consistently offered fair prices and have made me want to renew each year. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Avoid Tesco Car Insurance

1
Avoid them like the plague. I've been with them for a few years now, I'm a 56-year-old driver with a 7-year no-claims bonus. I've been paying £26 a month and they had always been great with my car insurance, even lowering my monthly premiums from £29 odd. Last night I received an email to renew as I do every year, but for some reason, they'd increased my payments to £60 odd. I was furious and called them this morning, stating that an agent of theirs actually told me after I changed my address, that the premiums wouldn't change. When I asked the agent why the increase, all he replied was, "I'm sorry we can't disclose that information as the underwriters don't tell us anything, they just increase premiums when they like." My response was simply that this was ridiculous and disgusting and I won't renew. What's the point of being with you people if you do things like this and on top of that, you refuse to give us a reason why! Well. I shall be going elsewhere - in fact, I'm now, as of this morning, with Quote-Me-Happy, paying £25.33 a month. There you go, times are hard and it's very unfair that these greedy companies think they can call the shots as and when. Reviewed on: 4th August 2023

Ludicrous 'service' - not paying out after a no fault claim

1
My husband had a no fault car accident in early December 2022. We have experienced absolutely awful service since contacting Tesco who his car insurance was with: 1) Tesco arranged for his car to be collected urgently to be repaired. It sat outside our house for FOUR WEEKS despite extensive chasing. 2) Took months to get repaired at the mechanics Tesco told us we had to use 3) We had to pay the excess at the garage 4) Tesco agreed it's a no fault claim so we are entitled to getting the excess back 5) They say the other party are contesting how much the repair cost and therefore Tesco won't give us back the excess yet (this shouldn't be our problem - it's why we pay insurance!) 6) The accident happened early December, it's now August and despite months and months of chasing Tesco still won't give us back excess. Absolutely outrageous! How on earth is it legal to keep our money, they agree accident wasn't our fault and the fact they are arguing with the other party shouldn't be our problem. AWFUL AWFUL SERVICE. Nobody takes accountability and I would avoid this company like the absolute plague. Reviewed on: 1st August 2023

When I claimed they did not repair

1
My car windscreen cracked and although the policy stated their contractor would repair for £75 excess, their contractor could not source a windscreen and no solution was offered Reviewed on: 31st July 2023

Tesco car insurance courtesy car fiasco

Had accident on 21 July contacted Tesco after a couple of hours as Iam entitled to a upgraded courtesy car as my car is a seven seater, Received a call on Friday saying they were delivering a 5 seater car witch is no good as we go on holiday Monday with daughter and children ,they said I should get in touch with Tesco so I did , I had to go on auxillis website to confirm it again which I have done again so phoned Auxillis again and they said you should here today when it's being delivered that was at 10.20 today 22nd just phoned again 3.30 and they said only just got the email so nothings sorted it's a joke who needs this stress after a accident so still waiting what's point off upgrading if this is the chaos' seem to blame it on each other, auxillis and tesco Reviewed on: 22nd July 2023

Update on last review after numerous phone calls to tesco and insurance to ombudsman we have finally found out why my son is being quoted DOUBLE what he was before despite being BLACKMAILED in to cancelling his own policy and paying £200 for the privilege we had a letter sent to us from Tesco saying my son was not blacklisted for having car insurance declined as his car was “modified “ black badges instead of silver ones ?? however after hours on the phone to ombudsman tesco we have been informed the car has been blacklisted as “modified “ black badges have now been replaced with silver ones this car is now uninsurable for my son 6.5k for a 1.2 corsa CAN U BELIEVE THIS we now have contact the information commissioners office to fight to get this taken off again what kind of a country do we live in where they would do this and not even tell you to insure this car now in my wife’s name is 5k with 25 years no claims bonus tesco can’t help as apparently yje underwriters did it ? well it says tesco above the door SHAMEFUL no wonder your trustpilot score is 2.5 and pretty much full of one star reviews and this is TESCO ??? Avoid like the plague

1
my son paid three grand for insurance for his 1.2 vauxhalll corsa they arrived to fit black box amd refused to fit it , apparatly it had been “modified” as the car was missing the 1.2 badge and the silver vauxhall badge in back was a black one and the silver front grill was painted black (we bought the car like this ) he was informed he would hear from the insurance company , that afternoon he got a call insurance cancelled immediate effect , resulting in the car lying in a town 15 miles away now uninsured , he had to get a taxi home , my wife then had to insure the car in her name and get a friend to take her over to pick up the car , he was informed if he wished to continue to be insured with tesco with the “modifications’ it would be nine thousand pounds for a black badge and painted black grill apart from that the car is original , he was also advised they were keeping the £500 first payment he had paid and that he would now go in a register saying he had been refused insurance in the past , a serious issue for a first time driver after hours in the phone to various management it was agreed he would pay £80 cancellation fee and not go on the uninsured register if he cancelled his own policy WELL TESCO INSURANCE YOU ARE the most despicable outfit we have ever dealt with leaving a young man uninsured at the side of the road anyone reading this review should avoid these charlatans at all cost please warn ur friends and family and avoid this lot like the plague Reviewed on: 14th July 2023

2 year customer and embarassing price

1
I was astounded when i asked Tesco bank insurance to let me start a new insurance policy after having been a customer of Tesco bank box insurance (black box policy) for 2 years. I drive a 1.6-litre swift sport. 2nd year insurance with Tesco bank box and i paid around £850, which is bad enough but not the worst part. I call up Tesco Bank insurance thinking it'll be slightly cheaper than the other quotes i have gotten and they quote me £2.2k as a 21-year-old with 2 years NCD. Frankly embarrassed at how they can say that and no offer anything better when i have been with a subsection of their company for 2 years, offered x y z bonus miles for being a good driver etc, especially when other quotes i have gotten online are under £800 now. Don't recommend them and honestly embarrassed how they can quote that. Reviewed on: 11th July 2023

So bad

Didn’t send any reminders about car insurance expiring meaning I was driving family about for months without insurance. Claims they sent emails (they def didn’t) and then said they wouldn’t insure me because the car had been uninsured for months. So bad Reviewed on: 11th July 2023
