Transparent, ethical and simple

I love using Triodos - so much that I have a current account and a one-year ethical savings ISA. What's particularly nice about them is their transparency in terms of costs as part of their banking service as well as where investments go. It feels obvious, but it's very nice knowing that your bank is not funneling money into fossil fuel industry or arms industries for example. Everything about Triodos is first class. When telephoning, customer care people really do seem to care and nothing is ever too much trouble. Best of all, of course, is the knowledge that your money is being put to use in an ethical way. Reviewed on: 16th April 2025

I've had a mixed bag with the customer service from Triodos. I was a victim of a push transfer scam and my initial communication with Triodos' customer service was shambolic. I was told that Triodos couldn't help and I'd need to go back to the scammer and ask for my money back - which is opposite to the advice given by pretty much any other financial advice service. This was on a Saturday, and the experience I had with the customer service when I phoned again on Monday was completely different. I was transferred to an anti-fraud team who handled my issue well and recovered my money within a few days. They refunded me the £500 I had lost in the scam, and then when they recovered the money from the scammer, organised the money to be returned and retrieved their refund. All I can say is that there must be a case of two support teams, an in-office-hours team which were great, and an out-of-office-hours team that were terrible. I'm guessing the latter are 3rd party and have different priorities than the former team. But the lack of consistency will lose Triodos customers. They need to make sure their customer service is a good standard at all times they are available. In my opinion It would be better to not provide the service at those times, then to provide bad service. Reviewed on: 16th April 2025
