Review of the Virgin Money, Cash ISA:

Virgin Money Forces Customer to Pay for Their Mistake

1
I opened a one-year fixed-term Cash ISA with Virgin Money in January, and initially, everything seemed fine. However, come October, Virgin Money abruptly demanded my NINo, with a warning: either provide it, or they would void my ISA or impose a two-month interest charge for transferring to another provider. Had they requested my NINo at the start—as they should have—I’d have been gladly provide it. Instead, halfway through the term, they invoked a 'legal requirement' and their right to void my ISA. This eroded my trust in the company, and when I looked into transferring out, their dismissive customer service left me no option but face the penalty. This issue arose due to their oversight—they accepted an ISA application without verifying NINo. Yet, they are now making me pay for their mistake. It’s appalling. Reviewed on: 11th October 2024

ISA Renewal

5
My original ISA matured a few months ago. When looking at the options I found Virgin to be competitive and as the original process had been so straightforward, decided to renew with them. Was able to do the whole thing online very easily. Highly recommmended Reviewed on: 8th September 2016

good as always

Reviewed this positively previously and have no reason to change this. Virgin money rates are always competitive and I have always found the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable without being too pushy Reviewed on: 8th September 2016

Very Happy

My Virgin Money ISA matured in March and I was offered a swift renewal online. After careful consideration I renewed for another 1 year fixed term with Virgin Money. The renewal was swift and smooth, with clear communications and no issues encountered. The interest rate offered, although had decreased on the previous 12 months, was still very competitive in a downward trending market. Overall I am very happy with my experience as a customer of Virgin Money and would not hesitate to reccomend their range of online ISA products for those looking for a good rate of return and ease of use with minimum fuss. Terrible customer service, poor communication - refusal to release funds!

1
On cashing in a stocks and shares ISA due to the uncertainty following Brexit I have had to contact Virgin Money on 6 separate occasions to find out where my money is. The honest truth is after 3 weeks they told me they could not release my savings to me unless I confirmed what I wanted the money for. Now, this may seem as unbelievable to you, as I must admit it was to me, on hearing it. But it's true. To be told "I don't know when we'll know the release date of your money and yes it should be treated as a matter of urgency but of course I cannot guarantee it will be." (I had to invent a reason as they wouldn;t accept the poor customer service and returns as a valid reason) Money being a thing we tend to like a certain amount of professionalism and certainty about, I feel you may understand my subsequent concern. Unfortunately Virgin Money do not seem to. This is following an executive decision last year to change dividend payments from 6-month interval payments to yearly payments. If you're still with me - great (or not - for me at least) this was done without any pre-warning or information passed to customers and what amounted to stalker level harassment on my part to get some information. The moral to my sad and tiresome tale, is please be warned, poor service, head-splittingly bad customer service and frankly terrible returns. This is a definite no from me. Virgin 2-year fixed rate ISA

5
Earlier this year I filled in an application form for Virgin Money to transfer my ISA funds from another provider. Virgin Money were offering a more competitive rate for a 2-year fixed rate bond. An appointment was set up at a local branch, and I was helped by a very professional and helpful assistant. She helped me to fill in the forms, explaining each step, and couldn't have been more helpful. The funds were quickly transferred from the previous company, and the paperwork and fund certificate sent to me in the post. The whole process was made incredibly easy largely due to the assistant at Virgin, and I would recommend their service. A positive experience - and I am hoping that when the bond matures, Virgin will still be offering competitive rates. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Poor online experience, falling interest rates

3
As per other cash/online only ISAs, offered a fantastic rate which has eroded over the space of only 18 months. Apart from that, great communication and offering, one of my gripes was their online experience - no dedicated app to quickly view my balance, and a poor mobile experience. Simple, straightforward cash ISA

5
I have held a cash ISA with Virgin Money for a couple of years now and I like the fact that it is such a simple and fuss free account to use. I chose a cashbook account as I like the fact that I have to physically go into the branch to take money out of my account but they also have an account which can be managed online. The process of opening the account was simple and straightforward. Interest rates on the account are variable but they offer a competitive rate compared to the other banks and building societies that I have looked at. The interest on the account is paid yearly and as the account is an easy access account there are no penalties for making withdrawals so your money isn't tied up and still available to you if you should need it.
