Review of the AA, Car insurance:

Reliable but very expensive

2
I've stayed with AA insurance as it's a name I know and feel secure with but they are more expensive than competitors and have always sent whopping renewal quotes. When I have the time to call and query it is suddenly reduced significantly. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2017

Unfortunately I can't give a minus review

After making an honest mistake regarding the dates on my penalty points, I had 3 expired and a new 3 added so I still had 3 so just let it roll. AA then cancelled my insurance, they wouldn't listen to me in anyway. I now have to declare that I’ve had insurance cancelled and my policy's now cost double. Disgusted with AA and will NEVER be a customer of theirs ever again. Reviewed on: 19th July 2023

Shockingly bad customer service ,would give zero stars if possible

1
Having been an AA customer for a number of years it is surprising to have had such a bad experience over the past 5 days. I changed my car so phoned to update my insurance. Having waited for 30 minutes my call was cut off. Waited another 30 minutes to get through. Was given 2 options one was to change existing policy and the other to take a new policy. The new policy gave no overlap cover so this wasn’t an option in case I was delayed picking my new car up. Not to worry, I was told I could proceed with an amendment to my current policy and then phone to get a new quote once I had the car if I wanted to as the amendment was nearly double the price of a new policy. If I did this there would be a £30 admin fee. That’s okay I thought as at least I knew I was covered. So following this advice I phoned this morning. Learning from my mistake I phoned at 8am- through immediately. However after a drawn out call involving a long period on hold I was told they couldn’t give me an amended quote. My only option was to cancel- with a few of £130+ or continue with the insurance which was nearly double the quote given last week. I feel completely ‘done over’ by The AA. At no point was I told I would in essence be stuck with a high cost insurance and at no stage told I would have to pay £130 to cancel my insurance. Having been a loyal customer for years of both insurance and roadside assistance I now know loyalty means absolutely nothing. If you want to be ripped off do go with The AA Car insurance as they do this rather well! Reviewed on: 10th July 2023

The Worst! Shop around!!

1
This was the worst experience I've ever had with a company! I chose them because they're old school and thought what could go wrong! Well everything went wrong, they put in my file that I had an accident claim, pushing up my rates, then when I called, had a customer service adviser, or the phone down on me! Then when I call back and check, they tell me, yes it's our fault we apologise, then hit me with a quote double the price of last year, and remove my no claims bonus?!? They have said its fixed now, but it's not!! I'm going to have call them again! Which takes a minimum of 2 hours, whilst I'm passed around from pillar to post! Just the absolute worst service, don't think what I thought, that them being older, they carry a higher standard, because they don't, shop around!! Reviewed on: 2nd June 2023

Poor Attitude to Service

1
I transfered my car insurance to the AA this year thinking a good recognisable brand. Paid my annual premium upfront. To receive an email a week into my policy I need to pay 10% more as 4 years ago someone drove into me (not my fault in any way) but as a result the insurance company underwriters deem me to be a higher risk as someone drove into me. One how is this legal and clearly discrimination against a victim of an accident. I complained and got told the complaint will be a closed complaint (so they are not interested) and I will get a letter in 7 days to tell me tough luck. Appalling. I will never use them again and will discourage anyone else to do so. Reviewed on: 18th May 2023

Policy not worth the paper it's written on!

Took out home insurance with the AA and paid extra for a Home Emergency Cover policy, which states words to the effect of "will identify and send a trader to undertake repair". Had a leak under our sink last week, duly called the AA and they duly sent a trader (A Lings), who simply said your valve is leaking so I've switched off your hot tap. Oh don't you have a spare valve, I enquired; no I'll order one said the so called plumber and we'll get back to you. We subsequently turned on the cold tap, only for water to gush all over our floor. I rang A Lings and explained what had happened only to be told I'd have to put in a new claim if I wanted them to return to isolate the leak. I said but aren't you due back to fit a new valve? No, that's not our responsibility, we came to isolate the leak only. I rang the AA back and the officer said, no they should have fixed that, not just isolated it, I'll give them a call and will call you back. Well, the only call back received was from A Lings, who reiterated, our job was to isolate only. I rang the AA back; different operator this time who said, well if that's what they are saying then you must only have cover for isolation. So the AA who sold me the policy cannot even be bothered to read the policy to see what cover a client actually has.... What a joke. So, having paid the AA for emergency cover, which states we will fund up to £500 per emergency, we called a plumber independently who said that the cold water was simply travelling through the hot water leaking valve; so the A Lings plumber either didn't care, was trying to get an additional claim to isolate properly or is totally incompetent. All this aside from the fact that our policy states "we will repair".... Wrote to the AA CEO - not even an acknowledgement, let alone a response so this outfit just wants to take people’s money but has no intention of fulfilling their obligations as stated on the policy. I've cancelled auto renewal of breakdown cover too so when that and the household policies expire, the AA has lost our custom. Reviewed on: 1st May 2023

Appalling customer service

If you want to have to chase your claim…hold on phones that ring out indefinitely and generally get the run around then this is the insurance for you. It has proved very difficult to process the simple claim of a key replacement - even though the work was carried out by an AA engineer. No responses from emails and phone helplines. Shocking service

1
DO NOT insure your car with this company. An entirely non fault claim and they have been so unhelpful, offered a shocking price for my car they decided to write off (which had minimal damage). No contact from them at all the only updates being when i called them. Returned the hire car despite the claim not being settled resulting in me losing my job as I had no way to get there and no money to replace my car. Horrendous. One star is far too much.
