Review of the Admiral, Travel Insurance:

Don't go with the Cheapest

4
I too have an annual travel insurance policy with Admiral. I have been insured with them for 12 years and had 2 claims for cancellation ( close family death and personal illness).Once I provided the proofs claims were settled with no hassle. Insurance is not about cost.It is about how you are treated in the unlikely event of a claim.Do not go for the cheapest. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Will never use these again, was refused a very small claim despite sending correct receipts etc , sneaky phone call from them asking loads of questions then saying sorry we are not paying it due to my replies! Go elsewhere and don’t waste your money with this company. I asked for the complaint procedure and it was ignored Reviewed on: 13th March 2024

Dreadful and shameful experience with Admiral.

1
Dreadful and shameful experience with Admiral. I got a years travel insurance cover with Admiral, and flew to Thailand for my 30th birthday, on the 2nd day my mother in law passed away unexpectedly. I submitted all the relevant documentation and filled out all the information on Admiral's portal, for them to come back and ask I have my MIL's GP fill out a medical form out our own expense, which wasn't a problem, the medical form asked for for detailed medical history which included routine checks from 6 months prior to her death stating there was no sign of her main cause of death. However on this form the GP also stated that back in 2007 it was noted that my MIL had an increased BMI. Admiral refused to pay my claim due to the increased BMI from 16 years ago, even though the form mentioned that 6 months prior there were no signs to be worried about. During this period (even though I complained to Admiral and asked them to stop) the company kept sending me letters and emails asking me to renew my policy. Reviewed on: 5th March 2024

Admiral Great - Until You Need to Claim

1
Always had a good experience with Admiral - until my first time ever trying to claim. My flight was cancelled and I had to buy another at the desk to get home within the next 72 hours. Assumed it was covered, and I believe the wording of the policy still confirms it should be, and Admiral agreed (in writing). At one point I called to ask for an update, spoke to a new person who decided it wouldn't be covered and closed my case, refusing to take it any further. Wild. Reviewed on: 2nd February 2024

I am 50 and travelled a lot. Only needed to claim travel insurance a small number of times during travels. I would never use these clowns again. Slow in making payment barriers to delay payment. Reviewed on: 25th January 2024

Admiral policies don't cover Le Shuttle strike action.

1
I thought I was insured through my policy when Le Shuttle / Eurotunnel went on strike end of December 2023, finding myself stuck in Calais, alone, no trains running no accommodation, uncertain when I could get back to the UK. I had to find emergency accommodation which was not easy as lots of people were in the same predicament but managed to find somewhere eventually. Euro tunnel honoured my ticket and got me on a train next day.. However Admiral would not accept that it was 'missed departure' as I was not delayed on public transport. Eurotunnel does not count as public transport. Please be aware of this if you use Admiral Travel Insurance. So extra accommodation and expenses due to Le Shuttle industrial action are NOT covered by this company. Read the smallprint to check if such circumstances are covered in your policy. I found staff uncaring to my situation. Reviewed on: 22nd January 2024

Stubborn, impolite customer service.

1
They will lie and brush off your complaints. Given that I have the transcript that instructed me to put in my claim I am not happy. Simply put, don't bother with them. There are genuine companies out there that will take your claims seriously. Reviewed on: 12th January 2024

A con - Beware

1
I bought an annual multi-trip cover with Admiral in June 2023. In July, my handbag got stolen in Barcelona. I reported the theft and started a claim, only to find that the wording and classification of the claim is done in such a way to extract multiple 'excess' amounts for each item. It is also cleverly worded to exclude as many items as they can. I gave them every single evidence they asked for, but the classification of items allowed them to deduct the maximum number of excess and apply as many limits as they could. In the end I got a fraction of the claim back after a lot of back and forth with them over a few months. Fast forward to December 2023, I called them as I was travelling to Germany. According to the the policy, I needed to update my health condition in case of any changes and I had had a stent and an angioplasty (heart issue) done. After going through all the medical questions (to which I was totally honest with them), they informed me that my policy was declined and that they would refund the remaining 6 months of the policy. I asked them to decline the medical cover part of the policy or add an exclusion if they wished, but keep the luggage and the rest of the policy going. They, however, insisted on declining the policy and a few minutes later said that they couldn't refund the rest of the policy because I had already claimed on it before. There is stuff I understand and I have dealt with many providers before, but this company is out to get the consumers and should be reviewed by the relevant watchdog. I would give it zero stars if I could. Reviewed on: 29th December 2023

Shocking delays and Customer Service

1
I cannot believe the incompetence displayed by Admiral Travel, inexcusably delays of 4 months to date, the total lack of communication and customer service over what should have been a simple, basic claim for a net £99.48 medical bill. I will never consider Admiral for any type of insurance again. I paid for annual travel insurance with Admiral for a holiday in Turkey July 2023. On arrival at Dalaman Airport on my return flight 28 July, I felt very ill. Jet2 saw me and asked what was wrong. Because I obviously looked bad, they insisted that before they would allowed me to fly home, I saw the airport doctor to assess if I was fit to fly home. I had the medical, costing £249.48 and obtained a ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate. After a lot of stressful phone calls from Jet2 to UK, they finally allowed me to check in for the flight home. On 23/8/23 when I was feeling better, I initiated a claim on their online claim portal for the £249.48 less excess of £150 leaving a net claim of £99.48, completed all of their questionnaire and uploaded all of the requested evidence. Now, 4 months later, having uploaded the exact same evidence at least twice more, my claim is still showing at 25% complete with outstanding unanswered questions which are identical to what I uploaded on 23/8/23, although their on portal log shows everything that has been sent with dates. This week 11/12/23 after I sent another email asking where my refund was, they replied, from an unmanned email address, 4 months after my initial claim date, asking if I could confirm if I received a refund on my return flight? Baggage cover tha5 covers nothing!

1
Dreadful experience with Admiral travel insurance over my lost baggage. Staff are well trained and endlessly apologise, BUT, delays are unacceptable, everything is excluded in the policy small print so very little is actually covered. What is covered they demand unreasonable evidence if you don’t have receipts e.g links to websites with similar items,. My claim is not huge and Admiral must have spent more in reviewing my claim endlessly than the actual claim is worth. Baggage cover is just not worth it! Reviewed on: 30th November 2023
