Locked-in a great deal

I locked in a great deal with my Barclays mortgage. I find it easy to manage all my financial holdings with Barclays so this great rate made going with them for my mortgage an ever more easy decision. I like the fact that they're easily contactable by phone and the two advisers I've spoken too (Emma rings a bell) were friendly and helpful. Reviewed on: 28th September 2015

Appalling customer service, communications and mortgage process

Barclays Mortgages seem to attract either 5* or 1* reviews; it’s down to luck as to whether your mortgage application goes through a competent or incompetent mortgage team. My application for a 18% LTV fixed rate mortgage should have taken just 5 days on a fast track route; 7 weeks later it is still sitting with the underwriter. Try as he might, my broker cannot get a coherent answer from Barclays as to the cause of the delay. One day he’ll be told it’s a technical issue, but the next person he deals with says it is not. My seller is so fed up with the lack of progress that he is threatening to remarket the property to someone who can proceed immediately Of note, Barclays is the only mainstream lender not to have a phone line to a responsible individual; all communication is by email or web chat, with the respondents being based in India. My experience so far, is of a lender with an incompetent team who simply don’t care. This is the second time in 6 years that I have attempted to get a Barclays mortgage, but the last time I will be let down in this way. I fully expect to lose the property we have been waiting 9 months to buy, solely due to Barclays’ incompetence and disinterest. My advice is not to be tempted by Barclays low interest rate, but instead, apply to the next best lender. Reviewed on: 21st March 2022

It could not be more frustrating to do the basics with Barclays

Fair interest, friendly service

As a first time buyer, we expected to pay a higher interest rate so were pleasantly surprised with our offer from Barclays. The mortgage process was completely straight forward and all completed quickly. I had to call to change our bank details and the customer service agent was extremely helpful and polite. Good rates, fair T&Cs, excellent responsiveness

They have a variety of competitive mortgage products and there are no hidden catches. Everything is clear and the terms and conditions are fair. The mortgage adviser is helpful, knowledgeable, efficient and responsive. I have had two mortgages with Barclays and was able to port my discontinued lifetime tracker to my new property and then take a new product for the rest. Appalling mortgage process

Every single step of my mortgage review was as painful as they could possibly make it. It has been over 14 weeks since I started my application and process and I am still waiting on completion. Customer service provide no use only being able to read an old dated comment From my application that’s very brief Rather than an actual update and that’s after holding on their phone lines for over an. Hour and half. The whole structure of the department is baffling. I think over 20 different people must have worked on the application given the amount of times Iv been told it had to be sent to another department for review, every small step of the way I have to wait 5 working days for anything to be done, that includes for someone to read and pass it onto someone else! Overall it is just truly shocking and I won’t ever look to remortgage with them. Reviewed on: 6th February 2021
