Having paid my premium for years i found i needed help.

Having paid my premium for years i found i needed help. Whilst they do have a lot of their own facilities and was seen by their GP in 48hrs it then went downhill. I was presented with a list of professional to choose from. sounds good eh? No! its really not. If the phone is answered, availability is to be worked out and that is not always straightforward. Tests arranged were sometime NHS facilities, manned by NHS staff on lunchbreak which i found bazar. Then if you have an excess get used to demand letters from all and sundry. All of this whilst worrying about a possible life changing diagnosis. I'm three and a half months into my fist call for help a few hundred pounds lighter, still not had the problem fully diagnosed and symptoms persisting. Throughout, no correspondence from Bupa to see how i am only notices of how much everything costs. Overall, very antiquated, not quick and certainly not caring. Bupa is just an insurance company, they’re not bothered about when it’s sunny, they just want to make money. Reviewed on: 25th March 2026

it is hard to reach customer service, but once you get in, they seem to be patient and helpful. The plans are good but not as comprehensive as other health insurance plans that I have used before for the money it is better to have a look at Other insurance before deciding on one. Took my money yet I can't deal with account!

1
BUPA were more than happy to take my money for overseas visitor (visa 600) cover that the govt deems necessary, however they FAILED to tell me it dod NOT include repatriation. Further to this once I had paid for the insurance for my visitor, who does not reside in australia (obviously) and does not speak English, I was no longer permitted to deal with the multiple issues that arose as they became more and more specific about what information they required. VERY FRUSTRATING AND EXPENSIVE EXPERIENCE. Go with someone else!! Reviewed on: 17th April 2025

If I could give zero stars, I would.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Bupa has been charging me TWICE every month — not once, but two times — and apparently sees no issue with it. When I tried to get my money back, they promised a refund, but instead of a proper electronic refund (like literally every other business in the world), they insisted on sending a paper check. Welcome to the 1980s. It’s been over 3 weeks, and surprise: the check never arrived. This has happened more than once, and every time I reach out, I’m met with radio silence. No follow-up. No escalation. No refund. No one seems to give a single damn. The support is useless, the process is broken, and the attitude is basically: “We’ve got your money, now go away.” Honestly, it feels like I’ve been scammed by a company that pretends to be professional but can’t even handle basic billing or communication. Do yourself a favor — stay far away from Bupa. Once they’ve got your money, they’ll disappear. And if something goes wrong? Good luck ever getting it back. Reviewed on: 14th April 2025

Impossible to cancel policy which I had to take as a visitor on a Visa when going to Australia. Can't cancel via online account, can't cancel via chat, can't cancel via mobile app, reaching them with a call almost impossible, have to wait on a line for 45min +....... So to put it shortly, absolutely customer unfriendly! Reviewed on: 11th April 2025

OUTRAGEOUS INCREASES

My wife and I have been with BUPA for over 20 years.10 years ago our premium was £120 per month.Today the premium for 2025 is £1400 per month. I expected as we get older (73 and 71) that we will pay more but this is outrageous. If the same percentage increase is applied then in 10 years (You can do the maths) Reviewed on: 3rd January 2025

Taking their time for pre-authorisation

1
On the 09th of December i requested a pre-authorisation to see a nephrologist. My GP was concerned about dropping Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). Blood test that measures how well your kidneys are filtering your blood. He said to be safe he will refer me to a specialist. Kidneys is not something mess round with. I requested and online pre-authorisation from Bupa. They emailed me with non related questions seeing that the GP already gave a referral letter. I feel people asking these question must be medically trained. And I called Monday and still Bupa cant give me authorisation number yet or tell me when they will give me one. I feel this is playing with my health, and i am paying for private medical insurance for a reason. Same happened with my Wife and she got fed-up and went through the NHS route. She was assisted faster by the NHS before Bupa even had given her help. I am not happy with this low level of service Bupa offers. I feel this is unprofessional and terrible client service as this is quite serious to me. Reviewed on: 18th December 2024
