A bank that makes you smile

5
I have an account with The Cooperative SMILE. This is the best online bank I have found in a while. Daily access with the easy to use app. I can pay bills and transfer money straight from my lap. With many accessible locations dotted all over the place. I guarantee the wonderful customer service will always put a SMILE on my face. Reviewed on: 22nd November 2015

My local branch is run very efficiently with very helpful staff, the interest rates my not be the best in the market but the service and advice is good at my branch (Islington). Reviewed on: 3rd September 2015

Very poor service

I signed up for a current account with the Co-Op for the ethical side of things more than anything. However, it was not a pleasant process. I signed up online, didn't hear anything for weeks so decided to phone up and they had no record of my application. After applying again I did receive a pack in the post and got started with the account. Then when I wanted to withdraw money from the account they wanted to see ID!!! So I had to make an appointment to go into the branch who were not particularly friendly or helpful. When I did finally manage to get some cash out from the branch they said they could not give me a copy of my statement, not sure why! Reviewed on: 31st August 2015

GOOD EXPERIENCE

Switched because of the bonus being offered. No problems so far and the staff are helpful Reviewed on: 27th August 2015

No friils accounts that do what they are supposed to do!

Despite not having the best rates on the market, they have a good overdraft facility which we occasionally use. The ethical stance is something which will appeal to a number of people and is not available elsewhere. I have unfortunately in the past been the victim of fraud, but they very quickly dealt with it, refunding the disputed transactions quickly. Depending on your circumstances, this could be right for you - some accounts suit different people, but I would say it's good value if you need a regular overdraft facility (within your agreed limit). If not, there are probably other products more suited to you that pay higher rates of in-credit interest. Reviewed on: 27th August 2015

Switching my account

5
I had always been wary of switching anything as I felt that the hassle might outweigh the supposed benefits. But, when my bank branch closed down recently, I decided to switch. The added incentive of £100 to me and £25 to charity helped me make the decision! In the end the whole process has been totally seamless and went like a dream as I hardly had to do anything save let my employer know my new account details. Highly recommended! Cashminder Account - A basic current account, ideal for people with a poor credit history.

5
About 18 months ago I closed the current account I held with another High Street bank as my working hours had been reduced to part time and my overdraft was racking up interest by the day. I have a less than perfect credit history and over the years was turned down by several banks who refused me even a basic current account. I looked online and found that MoneySavingExpert recommended The Cooperative Cashminder Account for people with a poor credit history and who had been refused an account elsewhere. There are certain restrictions on the account such as no Credit Card, Overdraft or Cheque Book - but this suits me fine at the moment as I am not interested in anything that involves accruing more debt. I was able to open my account over the phone and just had to post two forms of identification. They sent me a paying in book and paying in slips/envelopes - as there is no Cooperative Bank in my town - but I am able to use the Post Office for deposits and withdrawals, and I can also use my cashcard at any LINK cashpoint free of charge. Their Customer Service team are very helpful and any phone calls are charged at local rate. I am very pleased with my experience at The Cooperative Bank and I imagine I will be with them for some years to come. Reviewed on: 27th August 2015
