Cheap insurance for an EU student

I am a now postgraduate student and thus getting a good deal on my car insurance is very important to me. I also just moved to the UK four years ago and wasn't able to transfer my foreign no claims discount. The cheapest quotes I got during my first year in the UK were about £5k. More expensive than my car. Luckily Direct Line had a much better quote for me and since then their renewal has always beaten the competitors! Also, when I had an accident abroad that wasn't my fault, they still helped me get in touch with the other driver's insurance and helped me with my claim. Reviewed on: 22nd August 2016

Direct Service

Direct Line is the perfect insurance company as it is very direct with its customers! What I mean by that is they treat every customer new or old exactly with the same excellent all round customer service. Decent service, terrible pricing

I was insured with Direct Line since I was able to drive at 17 years old, originally as an 'add-on' driver due to me driving my parents car, however after a couple of years I was changed to be the main driver. Initially I was quoted around £800/900 when I was first insured, which taking into account me a new driver, a male and as someone in their teens, was to be expected. For the first couple of years this stagnated, but when I turned 20, the price slowly decreased by around 10% for a couple of years with Direct Line claiming it was due to loyalty. However, when I turned 23 not too long ago now, I was quoted around 550-600 to renew it, again being told it was as I was a 'loyal' customer that I received another discount... however, after using some market comparison websites (Compare the Market), I found that they were ridiculously over-charging me. I ended up going with Admiral Insurance, who as a brand I knew of. But mainly because they quoted me around £360 - almost 200 quid cheaper than Direct Line! Despite calling then up and asking if they could match it, they refused to budge, so I ended up switching provider. Funnily enough, in the past family members that have dealt with Direct Line were even told by one of their Customer Advisors that the only way they could match one of the price comparisons they were trying to negotiate was by re-registering them as a new customer. How does it make sense that an existing customer can lose out simply by remaining loyal to a brand? Reviewed on: 18th August 2016

Great rates for young drivers

My son has been on my policy as joint driver since he passed his test at age 19. Comparing what I pay with what friends in similar situations pay to other companies, I'd say Direct Line offers great value. Reviewed on: 18th August 2016

Great service at a reasonable price

I have been with Direct Line car insurance for nearly 10 years now and, though i've only made a claim for a windscreen repair I have always been very impressed with their customer service and cost. They don't charge admin fees to change details on the policy and will always price match any quote that you get through them online if it's cheaper than the initial renewal quote they've sent through. Can't find them through comparison sites, which is why I think they manage to be reasonable pricewise. Can't fault them. Reviewed on: 15th August 2016

Love the "Drive Plus" application that you can get with their policy which rewards safe driving and will also make you think more about driving safely as it becomes competitive and you want to achieve a high score Reviewed on: 13th August 2016

Great Price

Direct line came up with the best price for my car insurance, however, it wasn't just the price, the whole package was great, if I'm hit by an uninsured driver I won't lose my no claims bonus, and when I called to ask a couple of questions they couldn't have been more helpful Reviewed on: 3rd August 2016
