Had a bad experience with directline

I had a car accident in Glasgow 300 miles away from home at 3pm on Saturday I parked the car up in a safe place. Then rang directline to report the accident. At 4pm what the lady forgot to mention was directline closes at 5pm so I was left to spend the night in a bus shelter. Due to the fact they recovered my car. With all my stuff in it. I managed to get a hire car with out directline help. Thats when the real problem started I had a call from the engineer. From minute get go felt like I was dealing with a dodgy car trader. He offered me penny's on the pound for the car telling me how its old and now worth anything . Basically forcing me to except his offer. Only for me to find out the car was worth over 3000 and I got 2300 what a joke after complaining they offered me 2650 can not believe how they have ripped me off Basically told me to take it. In the most rudest manner. Would not recommend. Okay to take are money for years. Only to show there true colour when you need them. Zero stars will not be renewing. Reviewed on: 16th November 2021

Direct Line Decline!

I was insured with Direct Line for years then in January last year the premium skyrocketed and this year they couldn’t even offer any insurance coverage either on line or by phone for my Ford Fiesta!!! Even the man I spoke with at Direct Line couldn’t tell me why! They have the cheek to send me Emails precedingly to insure with them which frankly is a load of garbage as it’s not possible! Direct Line have declined dramatically since the days of Winston Wolf not only in their advertising and marketing also in their in ability to offer insurance at all! They also don’t ask anyone who leaves insuring with Direct Line who goes with a competitor why they’ve left. Reviewed on: 26th January 2025

Poor communication on claim handle

I have been with direct line car insurance for more than 15 years . Everything will fine as long as you won’t deal any claims with them Recent experience and also had experience in the past when incident been reported , direct line never communicate back the decision of the claim happend to me back . I have communicated not taking liability when reported incident however without notifying me they took a decision to liable and add claim on me . Poor service of handle of claim . I will never buy from direct line insurance even if it cheaper . Till the renewal letter comes no communication about claim , when I raise complaint . Direct line saying below s, however on page 33 of your policy booklet, it states: "We're entitled to do either of the following: ) Take over and carry out the negotiation, defence or settlement of any claim in your name, or in the name of any other person covered by this policy. ) Start legal proceedings in your name, or in the name of any other person connected to this policy. This can be for your benefit or our own benefit." They took over claim and does not notify you . You must be very careful when dealing with with Direct line claim as they always try to put claim liability on you never try to take your opinion and does not give you to utilise motor legal Reviewed on: 23rd November 2024

Motability/ Direct Line.

I am a Motability customer and insured through them by Direct Line. Very helpful, responded to me very quickly when mistakenly locked car keys in boot of car. Sent engineer to home within hours, took car to local dealer by transporter and bought replacement car to use in interim. Really helpful customer services and l was able to attend all forthcoming hospital appointments rather than cancel and rejoin waiting lists. Reviewed on: 11th October 2024

They've been great, polite and helpful. I made a claim and their organisation if having my car fixed was amazing. Never accept the initial price, get a quote from them, shop around and call back and haggle. They will reduce the price. Reviewed on: 4th September 2024

Diect Line - good up until this year!

I've been with Direct Line for some years - it's been the best deal for me so far and, importantly, allows me to add my daughter or another driver when family visit from Spain and borrow my car for their holiday. But...I've just seen the quote for my car insurance from September and I will certainly be shopping around as the hike is just unacceptable! So... sorry but unless I can get a better quote from Direct Line I'll be moving on! Reviewed on: 25th August 2024
