A decent basic service

The basic current account is fine for most needs. There is a tiny £2 per month reward, having reduced from £5 originally. The main reason I stay with them is the staff in my local branch. They are helpful, friendly and courteous. Reviewed on: 8th February 2020

No support for vulnerable customers

They closed my bank account without informing me or giving me any notice. I understand they have the right to do that but they are withholding our funds & yet demanding we pay our mortgage which is also held with them. I have already told them I have having the worst time with my health and the stress of trying to get it resolved has caused my physical and mental health to deteriorate. They’ve made no effort to understand what I am going through of what I need for support. Treated like criminals when we haven’t even done anything wrong! They simply do not care about their vulnerable customers and do not want to investigate anything properly and fairly. They have broken three parts of their own terms and conditions so just shows what a waste of time they are. Reviewed on: 12th February 2025

Reliable but lacking competitive edge

Current account is readily accessible using the Halifax app which is easy to use and transact with. However, pitiful interest rate and bank does not reward loyal customers. Products do not seem competitive or innovative. Reviewed on: 6th February 2025

Setting up the current account was quite a long process, I believe now you can just do it via the app but when I set up my account it was difficult. The app is so much easier to use when finding out details about my current account, very user friendly. Reviewed on: 10th December 2024

I can’t bank with the enemy!

I was a new customer and had a monthly account fee! Due to managing hospitalisations and other difficulties i hadn’t been able to pay the account fee on e month! I hadn’t even realised it had happened as I was preoccupied with other stresses! They report payments as missed after 35 days! I bought the account back up to date after 42 days (1 week). I then received a missed payment on my credit file! Had no idea this was even possible and wrote to Halifax to explain my situation and that it was a mistake and wouldn’t happen again! I explained I’d had a very tough year and had worked hard to ensure my credit file remained clean as I was trying to get out of social housing ! I asked as a will if good gesture if they would consider removing this! And they said very bluntly NO! I immediately left and closed my account! I can’t bank with the enemy! They constantly block my card for suspicion of fraud...

They constantly block my card for suspicion of fraud, even for food orders from Deliveroo. Had to call them three times in ten days and each call took 30 mins, take a photo my ID, myself, many security questions and the next thing is my account blocked again. Reviewed on: 25th October 2024

I have had a current account for years.

I have had a current account for years. The security is good when making transactions or setting up a new payment recipient. The only down side is you don't get any interest on your balance like other banks. Reviewed on: 15th October 2024
