Brilliant banking company.

I have been with my bank for nearly 10 years now and I have had no problems whatsoever. If I ever need to query anything, I just go to my local branch and they always solve my problems. Reviewed on: 12th February 2016

Dealt with fraud well

5
I love my bank! Once there was fraud a lot of money involved! My bank dealt with it very efficiently. Got all my money back without a fuss! Well done HSBC! Reviewed on: 12th February 2016

Friendly and no problems

4
I love my bank!! I got all my bank charges back and I have a £1,500 no fee overdraft. The staff are always friendly and helpful and I haven't experienced any problems with my telephone or internet banking....the only downside is that my branch is closing down which will mean driving to the next town. Stranded in India!!

3
Average product with fairly reasonable overdraft service. However their customer services, particularly over the phone are very poor. Before going on a 6 month trip to India I notified them where I was going and for how long so that charges from India were to be expected and wouldn't be stopped. They assured me my card would be fine and checked that it could be used there. I like to keep control over my money by only having one card and no credit cards so took only that card and travelers checks. Lo and behold first time I went to use my card there it would not work and there was no where nearby to change my travelers cheques. I spent a small fortune calling HSBC trying to get it sorted but they were absolutely useless and the representative didn't care in the slightest that I was stranded without money even to pay for a place to stay. Ended up having to arrange for money to be wired to me periodically for the duration of my stay as card did not work for the rest of the trip! Reviewed on: 10th February 2016

A seemingly impenetrable fortress of security

5
The endless plight of the bank account holder is inhabiting the space between wanting excellent security, whilst also being able to bring to mind the myriad of passwords and memorable answers required to ensure it. With HSBC, I have to juggle separate information for each method of access, them being internet banking, telephone banking and the app. The app requires a twelve digit security code (which way round do these numbers go again?), followed by a memorable answer (How am I meant to remember what my favourite book was when I set this up ten years ago?) and then three randomly selected characters from my password (Wrong? Maybe that’s my Facebook password…). Once access is granted, I have five minutes of inactivity, usually wasted crunching numbers on my calculator, before it logs me back out, and the gruelling process begins again. Then there’s the smart key for setting up transactions, with yet another passcode to recall. Any problems, and it’s time to ring for help via telephone banking, a conversation that always begins with me spewing out every password and memorable answer I can think of, before remembering that this method of banking requires yet another completely different string of digits. Though frustrating, I’ve never had any security scares, and HSBC have always been very understanding every time I’ve rang up begging for help because I must have spelled my first pet’s name wrong when I set up. An impenetrable fortress of security soothed by great customer service. Reviewed on: 9th February 2016

HSBCouldn't Care Less

HSBC - a bank account and app designed for the bank and not the customer. The number of passwords and codes and different ways to access your account make it almost impossible for ANYONE to do so. Sounds good, eh? No one stealing my money! Unfortunately, 'ANYONE' includes me! It's impossible to access your own account as you get a 30 sec code and then have to which to another section of the app which takes more than 30 secs to load. God forbid you change mobile and need to move the secure code generator...just don't do it - it isn't worth the hassle I promise you. Couple this with the fact that HSBC charges you to send your own money to another account of your own in a different country. OK, I'm sure all banks do, but HSBC also give you a horrible exchange rate. It is always way lower than the current exchange rate anywhere else. HSBC - quick to take your money with both hands.
