Review of the HSBC, Bank Account:

terrible customer service

spent weeks trying to set up internet banking, customer service no help at all, kept reading from a script instead of listening to actual complaint. have closed account and moved to another bank Reviewed on: 10th June 2018

Feels like HSBC are stealing from my dead parents

1
An immediate account cancellation and transfer of funds would resolve this situation instantly. Unfortunately, these seem to be beyond the realm of capability for HSBC. Some back story context. I’ve recently lost both my parents. They owned a holiday flat in Sharm El Sheikh and took out an HSBC account to enable them to access money on their regular trips to Egypt during their retiral. Shortly after my father passed away my mother, recently diagnosed with liver cancer, visited Sharm El Sheikh in order to tie up affairs in Egypt. When visiting the HSBC branch at Sharm Azur, staff refused a 75 year old woman access to her OWN money from the joint account she shared with my deceased father. Without any money, my mother had to return home, important affairs with the house etc left unresolved. Following my mother's recent passing, I have made multiple phone calls and sent several e-mails to HSBC in the UK and Egypt advising, as executor for their estate, that my parents had died, that I wished to cancel their joint HSBC account and arrange for funds of approximately £1,200.00 to be transferred to solicitors handling the estate. On each occasion, I have been advised that my parents would need to report to the HSBC branch in Sharm El Sheikh. My DEAD parents would need to travel from Scotland to the HSBC branch in Sharm el Sheikh to sort out the administration for closing the account. After repeatedly advising that my parents had passed away, I was told that I would need to travel from Scotland to Egypt to close the account. HSBC are an international bank, promoting themselves as reputable and trustworthy. My parents chose to take out an account with HSBC to enable easy transfer and access to money when they visited Egypt during their retiral. The rude and classless way in which HSBC appear be effecting a deliberate and calculated theft from my dead parents simply beggars belief. My repeated e-mails and telephone calls clearly illustrate that I have provided HSBC in the UK and Egypt with numerous opportunities to resolve what should be a really simple issue – an account cancellation and transfer of funds. I am more than happy to visit any HSBC branch in Scotland and provide the appropriate paperwork needed (proof of ID, death certificates etc) to facilitate an immediate account cancellation and transfer of funds. Given the hand of cards that my family and I have recently endured, is that too much to ask? Reviewed on: 22nd June 2023

Customer service is non existent !

1
I opened a current account with this bank I've tried to log in to my account well over a week now with no luck I've received all the security, pin codes etc but I cannot log on now they locked my registration. The simple reason is I gave them my landline number when I should have given them my mobile and I sorted it all out over the weekend with great guys in HSBC. Now my number is blocked ... such rubbish its unbelievable in this day and age untrained staff and I'm moving to another bank ... waste of time Reviewed on: 12th June 2023

Horrendous

1
Never bother banking with this horrendous company. Their customer service is abysmal and unhelpful - they seem to read off a script and then put you on hold for ages before finding the right page to read off next. Opened an account over a month ago and still do not have access to any money or online banking, their letters say you can do this over the phone but whenever you try they tell you go into branch. My branch had permanently closed locally to me as a result of Covid so the closest one is ages away. I work full time (like most people) and therefore going into the branch is problematic for me within their opening hours and involves taking time off work, driving quite some way (and its a good job I do drive as this would be even worse) and parking. To think I was actually considering moving over business banking to them in the future - 100% will not be doing this after being on the phone for 45 minutes, their chatbot is even more useless Reviewed on: 9th June 2023

Great app

5
Really great app for banking, I find this the easiest to use of the main banks that I use. HSBC have been very easy to set up with and I feel particularly safe using their app. The application for the account flagged issues with my information with another main bank, which I had not even realised, and was particularly helpful for monitoring my safety. Really helpful - if you use the app!

Have to open a new savings account by logging on online and not on the app. Okay great, but then when you hit a problem and try to use the chat function online you only get a robot who tells you that you need to phone or use the app. (Weird really you would have htought the same chat function could exist on the computer and on the app, especially if you need people to use both for different things). So you have to log in on the app to get help instead! Bit of a waste of time but did get the issue sorted in the end. Reviewed on: 5th June 2023
