No interest but fab customer service.

4
I have had a basic current account with this company for years. Although their interest is pitiful (well at the moment non existent) at least their customer service is second to none. I once had an issue and phoned them up. After I'd spoken to one of their UK staff they said someone would phone me back and within ten minutes one of the managers was on the phone and had sorted out the problem. I also received a modest amount of compensation. Reviewed on: 26th August 2015

Efficient but faceless

I like HSBC, I find them reliable and secure and provide all I need. However, my big complaint is the reluctance to even let you get to the counters. At our local branch the counters are upstairs and it feels like a spanish inquisition to be allowed up to them. I much prefer to do some things with a person, not just a machine. Other than that, I am very pleased! Reviewed on: 26th August 2015

Terrible Service

After signing up for an account aged 16 and staying loyal for nine years, I received a letter through the post explaining they were closing my account due to too many gambling transactions. I barely had any, just the odd bet on the football on a Saturday. I couldn't believe this and it caused major upheavel having to change account and card details absolutely everywhere. Never had an issue

I've had this bank account for almost 10 years now and I have never had a problem. Customer services have always been helpful and I've always had a quick response when applying for an overdraft. Reviewed on: 25th August 2015

Excellent customer service with HSBC

I've banked with HSBC for over 10 years now and I can't fault them. I've had experience with their student account and graduate account, both of which were brilliant. Their customer service is excellent and they are very responsive to any payment which is classed as suspicious, I've had to contact them in the past over an internet payment they were querying, but this was fixed easily and promptly. The internet banking service is great, really handy to set up standing orders and pay bills quickly and efficiently. Reviewed on: 25th August 2015

Fantastic customer service!

I've never had a problem with HSBC. I ring them, and I check my balance online, and it is always great. When someone used a clone of my card fraudulently they called me up and stopped the transactions before they went through. I have never had a fraudster gain access to my money with HSBC and when I call them my call is always answered within 1-2 minutes. Reviewed on: 25th August 2015

Great customer service

I have progressed from a student account to a graduate account and have been with HSBC for a number of years. I am primarily with them because I work abroad frequently and they really have branches everywhere! However, the highlight of my experience is from the staff at a UK branch, in Kendal. Anytime I have experienced a problem while abroad, they have worked to fix it asap and have helped me out of a number of fixes. They even give me a cup of tea whenever I pop into the branch. I really feel the customer service at the Kendal branch is fantastic. Reviewed on: 9th August 2015

A good mix of secure and simple.

Unlike many these days that seem to push endlessly towards apps for security or rely solely on passwords HSBC gives you a little keypad doodad which generates a code for you to log in with. Fortunately if the doodad breaks or gets lost you can still do basic banking, checking your balance and (I think) paying existing payees. But you can't set up new payees. To me, this is the best of both worlds. Outside of address changes (which went smoothly) I've never had to contact customer support. So can't really comment. On the other hand I've had the account for 14 years without needing to contact customer support so that says... something I suppose. Reviewed on: 9th August 2015

Thirty years with the bank but the relationship is coming to an end.

The lack of staff in branches has gradually become a real issue. The customer service by phone has always been hit and miss but the knowledgable and friendly staff in the branch were always HSBC's saving grace. With a skeleton crew manning busy banks most customers are now given a quick 'hello' from stressed meeters-and-greeters before being waved towards internet-banking terminals. Fine if you're PC-savvy but unfortunately not everyone is. Reviewed on: 9th August 2015

Good customer service when needed, but disproportionately high charges

3
I've been with HSBC with over 10 years now, and I've always found the customer service in branch second to none. The telephone and internet services are a little more hit and miss, but on the whole good value. However, the charges placed for unauthorised overdraft/bounced direct debits are disproportionately high, and there is sometimes too much red tape - I've been unable to remove a student marker from my account since leaving university seven years ago, because no one I speak to seems able to do it.
