Review of the MORE THAN, Home Insurance:

Useless

I made my first call for an emergency plumber at around 7.45am and received a text saying the plumber would arrive by 5pm (they said this was longer than the expected 4 hour window due to high demand). I explained there was a hole near my boiler which was leaking water and had bored through the ceiling. I called back at twice at 4.30pm and 5.15pm to chase up the plumber and to report further water leakage through the ceiling and light fittings in my kitchen. At 7pm I called again and was advised someone would come 'very soon'. At 10pm no action had been taken. I called again to explain the situation was only worsening, I didn't know whether I could use my boiler so was very cold in my house and we had had to switch off the water tap hours ago to prevent the dripping. There is now water damage on my ceiling. Then only £200 for an emergency night time call out was guaranteed for using an own tradesman despite this being a totally unrealistic number. Apparently every time your trades people were contacted it was reported to me that they were unreachable (and going to voicemail) with no back up plan or alternative source of traders, leaving me no choice, but to call an independent tradesman as the problem was urgent and worsening. I think in a big city like Manchester, having only one source of tradespeople is not good enough and ultimately led to a complete lack of service, despite me having paid for my insurance. I then had to call back at 11pm to report this to the network manager and explain the costs were more than double (£445 Vs £200). After 1 hour on hold with no updates and at a quarter last midnight I gave up and hung up. I think the above is very unacceptable: I was unable to leave the property all day, had to cancel work meetings to be on hold to try and sort the situation out. I was unable to have a shower or flush the toilet. I had to call 6 times in one day, several times being placed on hold with no updates for 35 minutes at a time (on at least 3 calls) and in the end there was ultimately no service in an emergency situation and I had to sort it out myself. I was advised on the final 10pm call that it was extremely unlikely that a plumber would attend my property until the next day. At 7.45am I could have independently sorted this out immediately (the plumbers I called arrived within 30 minutes and sorted the job out within an hour) and avoided further water damage, had I not been beholden to use your tradespeople and extraordinarily slow 'emergency service'. This is my first ever call out with More Than and I am incredibly disappointed. Reviewed on: 16th February 2021

Avoid like the plague!

Avoid like the plague! Once they have your money they just walk away from any claim, i.e. they outsource this crucial part of their business to a third party called BVS. BVS is meant to validate a claim but instead off addressing the claim they are only interested in under cutting the claim. Also the reviews on this company are horrendous. I will be reporting both companies to the insurance ombudsman as well as writing to Which the consumer champion. If you find yourself having to make a claim ensure you get everything in writing or else you will find yourself in the situation he said she said. Reviewed on: 10th October 2024

Excellent claim service

storm damage, claim rejected. awful person.

my roof tiles blew off in a storm, and broke my skylight around £2000 worth of damage. they sent a surveyor who was an arrogant awful person. the claim was rejected blaming my roof. it was a STORM, whats the point in house insurance? i hate his guts. he also didn't follow procedure and no one told me it had been rejected until i called up weeks later. also, it still classed as a claim. Completely pointless and causes more stress and delays

It's been 4 days since we reported a leak and we've still had no help whatsoever. They sent round one person who was a gas engineer not a plumber so had no idea what he was looking at and left without doing anything. We've now been told there's nothing more they can do (they've done nothing) and we're not covered as it's a hot water tank leak and they don't cover them. The wording of the policy is 'We will cover up to £1,000 for our approved tradesperson to resolve emergency situations in your home. This includes: Loss of your home’s main heating and/or hot water due to failure or breakdown.' Nothing in there about hot water tanks. This has caused so much stress, I've spent hours on hold (always at our cost) or talking to different people but no one has actually come round to stop the leak or provide any advice other than essentially 'get your own plumber and pay for it yourself'. Oh and it's STILL LEAKING 4 days after we reported it! Water pouring down the wall and the joists under the tank soaking wet. 4 days of calls and waiting and now we're back at square one. Waste of space insurance

Sales advise I have house insurance and supplied me with documentation. Claims say I don't and ceased in 2022. When I say u are taking direct debits from my bank account claims say we will refund you with payments to us u have no insurance Reviewed on: 14th September 2023

Ignored all contact

Once my contract had ended they constantly spammed me about a policy I did not have. When I asked them why, they could not be bothered to reply. They obviously do not care about customers or former customers. Be very cautious. Reviewed on: 18th July 2023

Awful dont bother with more than pet insurance

Awful insurer for pets, please don’t bother with them, makes everything challenging for the vets, they stuck a 10% excess on top which I didn’t know about; now I’m stuck unfortunately. They disputed my first ever claim, for no reason, vets wouldn’t lie and are now disputing again. My dog had luxating patella diagnosed several months into having her, she’s now had an operation to repair and they are now querying again about the operation. Will never use this company ever again for anything I need insurance for! Reviewed on: 10th July 2023
