If you’re eligible for an overdraft, the first £50 is interest free. The FlexDirect account has to be managed online or over the phone, not at the branch.

Great interest rates, no strings, and easy to set up

I had a great experience opening my FlexDirect account - I applied through the app, it took less than 5 minutes, and it was up and running! I love that I didn't have to go in to an office to set it up. I also love that there are no strings attached - i.e. that I don't have to set up a certain number of direct debits to get the great (5%!) interest rate so long as I pay in at least £1000 per month. Most bank accounts have far more hoops to jump through and Nationwide is the best I've come across on this side. The online portal has a bit of a dated look and feel through a web browser, but the app is completely modern and what you'd expect from a bank in 2017. All around I am very impressed. Best interest rate on £2500

This is a fantastic interest rate for a year on up to £2500! 5% = £125 You can also open a linked savings account for another 5% interest!! Everything to love about this bank! Reviewed on: 8th November 2017

A real Money Boost

They make your savings queries so much easier. I opened this account from the advice of the Assistant. She made it clear exactly what benefits I would be getting along with the best way to save regularly. She helped me every step of the way with my application. Excellent Savings boost

Good benefits, clunky website

The benefits offered on the account are great (5% interest, £100 referral bonus) and are better than I've had elsewhere. However, the online banking is a bit clunky and more difficult to use than many others I've used before. It isn't a deal breaker, but does stop it from getting a perfect score. Flexdirect Account

I love my Flexdirect Account, you earn 5% interest on balances up to £2500 in the first year of holding the account and 1% after the first year. Although it’s what Nationwide call a self service account, I like the fact that I have a high street branch that I can go into should there be any problems. You can also have a monthly saver account which pays 5% and on top of that you can recommend friends and family to switch to them and they will pay £100 to you and £100 to your friends for switching. No issues so far but app needs a serious update!

I joined nationwide with their flex direct because at the time they were offering 5% interest on in-credit accounts which is a great incentive to stay out of my overdraft however having a fee free overdraft for the first year was a comforting buffer for someone that's had a huge free overdraft and a student account for years. The switch from my bank was easy, happened without a hitch and I had plenty of communication through text, email and mobile post to explain each step. Letters were necessary and not too much and everything arrived promptly. The only issue I had was setting up my online account as I was keen to do it ASAP and it wouldn't let me due to not setting up the needed information previously (I didn't have the opportunity). A quick call to customer service sorted it. I got through with ease and received friendly and straightforward help. I love that I can get cashbook rewards when activated similar to my old bank account however wish that this was part of the app! My only gripe with the account is that it seems a bit out of date and simplistic. I've come from using one that not only allows me to manage my account but links me to rewards, all products and several other features. I feel the nationwide app needs a bit update as there aren't as many branches as some banks so most dealing are online! Reviewed on: 8th November 2017
