Review of the Nationwide, FlexDirect:

Ethical banking for the people

5
I like this building society's ethics. Customers service is always very friendly and helpful. I really appreciated the 5% cashback on spending in February, March and April. The heavy use of card ready is a bit annoying but they've been taking steps to reduce the amount of time the card reader is needed Reviewed on: 10th April 2023

Easiest Current Account I've Used

Switched to Nationwide just over a year ago & wished I had done this sooner. I have total control of my money via their app / online platform (this includes my Current Account, Savings & Credit Card); something I've never had with previous banks Reviewed on: 3rd November 2016

Total Shambles

I have been trying to set up a Nationwide FlexDirect account for about 4 weeks (seems like a lot longer). The hoops you have to jump through are ridiculous. You have to visit a branch with ID. Send for a card reader, post off an acceptance of Terms & Conditions, then wait for every thing to be posted back. You then try to use the Internet app and find you have to register for it on line, only the website will not let you register for 7 days. I rang up to cancel the account because of all the hassle I have had and the assistant could not get me through to the dept I needed to deal with. She suggested I do it on line at which point I buried my head in my hands and then explained that I could not do it on line due to the problems I had already outlined. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Do not bother with Nationwide, life is too short Reviewed on: 2nd November 2016

Awful

Have been trying to open an account with them for over 2 weeks. A complete shambles. Latest , I had a call from them yesterday saying they had lost the terms and conditions I had signed in store and would I go in and sign it again! Reviewed on: 21st September 2016

Shrewd Banking

Great account for making your money, make some more money... How can you not love the 5% interest on up to £2,500(sadly only for 12 months, then drops to 1%) Just a £1000 pay in each month is all you need. Reviewed on: 19th September 2016

Hassle free banking

5
Nationwide made it super simple to switch my current account. I currently get 5% interest on my balance up to £2k, and have opened up a Help-to-buy ISA through their online banking system. Nationwide have made banking hassle free for me; a far cry from my previous experiences with Barclays. I also received £100 for switching, as did my sister who referred me. Win-win! Fantastic current account with benefits

The Peoples Account

I have been with Nationwide now for 3 years and have 2 accounts with them. If I have ever had a reason to speak to them they are always very willing to help and in a good patient manner. Always treated with respect and courtesy - feel like I am a person not just a user of their products/services. I call them the Peoples Bank as it is run for the benefit of people as members decide how it runs. AGM are held annually all members can have a say and we are listened to. Great interest rate for a limited time.

Nationwide Flex Direct current account gives a fabulous interest rate of 5% gross for the first 12 months, reverting to 1% interest after this period ends. To gain these rates you have to pay into the account at least £1000 per month. We decided to switch our ordinary Nationwide Flexclusive current account in order to receive this higher interest rate. The switch went smoothly, with no problems whatsoever, and we received the advertised rate on account balance up to £2500. Unfortunately the higher rate is reduced after one year, and customers receive the lesser APR of 1% interest. I would recommend this account - even though the higher rate is available for only one year, customers receive 1% following this. Previously we had been receiving no interest whatsoever on our current account. However, for those willing to keep switching current account deals with different banks, there are much better interest rates on offer. Reviewed on: 28th March 2016
