Review of the Nationwide, FlexDirect:

Ethical banking for the people

5
I like this building society's ethics. Customers service is always very friendly and helpful. I really appreciated the 5% cashback on spending in February, March and April. The heavy use of card ready is a bit annoying but they've been taking steps to reduce the amount of time the card reader is needed Reviewed on: 10th April 2023

Customer service is always good

I bank with Nationwide, have done for many years and have never had a problem with them. Customer service is always good and when my new debit card was sent to my old address they sorted it out very quickly. Reviewed on: 30th January 2016

Nationwide Flexdirect gives limited banking benefits with poor customer service

1
The Nationwide Flexdirect account gives good interest of 5% gross, but on a small maximum balance of £2500, and that rate applies only for 12 months. The online banking service is poor, for example showing transactions in an upside down way, so that the least relevant (oldest) transactions are shown first, and the most relevant (latest) transactions are shown last and off the bottom of the screen. Similarly there are issues in their online banking messaging, where the system does not show the reply that has just been made to them, and on their customer satisfaction screen, where clicking an answer to one question makes the answer to the previous question disappear. The telephone customer service is poor, because Nationwide claims to welcome feedback, but will not take and address issues such as those above when put to them. Reviewed on: 20th January 2016

Great

I've been with Nationwide for several years now and they haven't let me down once. No computer system problems like the other banks (think RBS and Natwest) and the online banking system is easy to use. The text messages that I receive weekly are very helpful. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

GOOD RATE

A great interest rate for a current account although sadly only for 1 year. branch staff are knowledgeable and friendly and I have never had any problems Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

great interest rate

easy account to open and also pays a great interest rate of 5% though only on £2500 and only for 1 year Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Great little account

Had this account for almost 15 years, no frills, does the job. Reviewed on: 20th November 2015

Agree with much that has been said on here. Good card with good customer service in branch. Reviewed on: 8th September 2015

A good account with great interst rate

4
Paying 5% interest on balances of up to £2500 for 12 months this is a great account. You do need to deposit £1000 a month into the account but it doesn't have to stay there, you can withdraw it the next day and put into another account earning more interest for you. Reviewed on: 27th August 2015

Good interest but only up to £2k

4
This is a good bank account to use if your balance is usually below £2,000, as it offers a great interest rate of 5%. It would be even better if the interest threshold was higher - like the Club Lloyds account which offers 4% on balances up to £5,000, or Santander 123 which offers 3% on up to £20,000. Overall, I have been happy with the account. Reviewed on: 26th August 2015

Fantastic building society

I have been with Nationwide for many years, on and off, but have only started using them as my main bank account in the past year. I recently upgraded to the FlexDirect account online, and this was very easy to do. The website made it very clear what was happening at every stage and my application was approved almost instantly. The amount of emails from Nationwide regarding my account is just right, and staff are always very friendly and helpful when I have a query in branch. Highly recommended.
