There’s no monthly fee for FlexBasic and Nationwide automatically open a savings account for you at the same time. The account doesn’t have an arranged overdraft facility.

I took out Flexbasic because I didn't want an overdraft as I'd had debt problems. It was the right decision, I have been able to be in control of my spending whilst still getting everything \i need from a current account. The mobile app and also the website are very easy to use and I can do everything I need to do from checking transactions, balances, transferring money to opening new products. I also like how Nationwide is run and that they do things differently. I vote in their AGM and feel like I'm getting a say. Reviewed on: 8th March 2025

I had problems claiming money back from a travel company that went bust. Nationwide were very patient, helpful and successfully helped me through the process. Nationwide also believes in paying customers back which they have done with me twice :) Reviewed on: 26th February 2025

Shocking customer service from Nationwide

I am not a Nationwide customer but I went into their branch in Marlborough after withdrawing some cash from their ATM outside the branch. My request was a simple one, could I change £15 in notes into change to keep in my car for parking fees and supermarket trollies. The response from the cashier was to say in a very loud voice: no we can’t do that it’s money laundering! When I questioned this the retort was, again in a very loud voice, that is what a money launderer would say. This was not only very embarrassing but shows a shocking lack of understanding from the branch staff. This has put me off from ever using Nationwide again. Also my wife had a Nationwide current account but after the initial bonus period it offered so little she decided to change to a better offering from Chase. Reviewed on: 30th July 2024
