Review of the Policy Expert, Home Insurance:

Awful Claims Experience.

The true testament to any insurance company is what happens when you need to make a claim, and, quite frankly, Policy Expert (Accredited Insurance Europe), are crooks. We had a very clear and obvious landslip at the rear of our property during a winter storm. This impacted a retaining wall and subsequent rear elevation wall. After sending an assessor out, remedial work was carried out to stop the roof collapsing. The contractor at the time then gave PE a price to undertake the work. After this price was given, everything changed. PE send a new surveyor out to assess the damage - with the clear intention of trying everything they could to decline the claim. The surveyor changed his mind and decided that the claim should be declined, with a largely unsubstantiated guess at what 'might' have happened. We were then forced to make a complaint to the Ombudsman, despite the cause of the claim being within the boundaries of the policy wording and conditions. The Ombudsman found in our favour and upheld the complaint, yet this wasn't enough for PE, who then questioned the decision of the Ombudsman. Their argument was pathetic, based on guesswork and lies. After 11 months, the Ombudsman found in our favour for the 2nd time. Our wall is near-collapsed and the contents of that part of the property are decimated from mould and water damage. (PE refused to pay storage costs). I an only encourage people to heed this as a warning. PE do everything they can to refuse claims, and it'll take up months of your time trying to fight them. Too stressful when making a claim

Too stressful when making a claim Dont waste your money. HORRIBLE company when you are trying to make a claim. They will ask you to do it online/ via their portal then everytime you do it they will just close your claim without dealing with it. Send so many messages and they said they will reply within 4 hours but they never did. Reviewed on: 14th September 2024

POLICY EXPERT - IF YOU NEED A CLAIM DON'T BOTHER

I have used this company for several years now - and like many say - you only know how good the insurance policy is when you need to make a claim. I have tried to make a claim for a nest of bees which has moved into the gap between the upstairs flooring and downstairs ceiling. I have sought professional advice and this nest obviously needs safe removal - particularly as my son has been stung several times now. Now in the general house insurance policy, bee removal does not appear to be covered??? I had to be passed around from pillar to post, make six telephone calls, send four emails and fill in two claim forms to be read word for word the details of the policy exclusions - which appears to be many might I add. I have filed a complaint and have had no reply to date. Apparently, bees are not classed as a 'pest' - I find this hard to believe when they are living in my house, stinging family members and eating through the joists to expand their nest. I appreciate they are protected and the service I contacted would remove them and relocate unharmed - but this is a service I cannot afford myself. I will not be renewing with this company for sure and will go to a more reputable, reliable main stream insurance company in the future. I know for sure that Admiral cover for bee infestation and that bees in homes is becoming more of a problem as we have more houses and less trees. Take my advice and go somewhere else for home insurance if you ever want to claim for anything. Reviewed on: 12th September 2024
