Review of the Saga, Home insurance:

Unprofessional

1
My parents have used Saga for many years. They had to make a claim for the first time at the end of January. The assessor came out agreed that the claim was valid, our contractor requested a higher amount and this is the last we heard from the underwriters until I got involved over 1 month later to chase on behalf of my parents. The claims assessor and the senior claims case handler were contacted and they needed to decide which of 2 amounts on the system were going to be offered (the one being too high in their minds). I said that they needed to officially, in writing, offer the amount that they are happy with to my dad and I'm sure he would be happy to proceed. I added that the total lack of communication for 6 weeks was shocking and unacceptable. THE WALL HAD COLLAPSED BETWEEN THE WET ROOM AND THE KITCHEN, the ONLY FUNCTIONING SHOWER FACILITY IN MY ELDERLY PARENTS' HOME. I explained that my almost 78-year-old dad has cancer and is catheterised as well as being full time carer to my mum (76) who has dementia, and we are all very stressed and require a response and a speedy resolution. The call handlers were lovely but unfortunately another month elapsed, with several emotional calls from myself (a single working mum (NHS), each call taking up to 1 hour out of my day) AND I was also copied into an email to the Claims Handler and Assessor - I sent several emails over the course of this month, starting off politely, explaining the awful circumstances that we found ourselves in and requesting an update however, all to no avail. I sent several more emails, increasingly desperate, detailing my parents cancer and dementia, again 0 response. Finally, a call handler did their job for them, offering the lower amount which we accepted. To say I am disgusted by the total lack of communication, their total disregard for our horrific personal circumstances and their inability to respond to one of my emails officially is an understatement. Appalling. Horrific. Cold. Unprofessional. Uncaring. Underhand. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR INSURANCE. Reviewed on: 22nd April 2023

Absolutely Disgusted

1
I had adequate home insurance and my monthly premium was £20.55 per month. Saga automatically renewed my policy and took a payment of £58.88 from my account. Confused I called Saga who informed me that was the new monthly payment. I have never had a home insurance claim and nothing had changed. I was told that had upgraded my policy to one i did not ask for or need. They then offered me the same policy for £32 a month? I cancelled my policy. I used Saga because they seem to champion the older generation. This is obviously not the case. I was told I would not get a refund for the extortionate payment they had already taken. I worry about vulnerable trusting people who do not expect to be taken advantage of in this way. Reviewed on: 30th April 2025

Woefully poor emergency claims experience

1
We are in the middle of an ongoing and still unresolved EMERGENCY PLUMBING CLAIM after four and a half weeks. The Claims team don’t understand about basic customer service, saying they’ll get back you and then nothing happens so we always have to phone them - our phone time to them is now about ten hours. They use an emergency plumber that you can’t contact over the weekends. You can’t ever speak to the same person twice even if you have their name, neither will they give you the Network Manager’s name or contact details nor put you through to anyone who can actually make a decision. It’s “not their protocol” apparently so you’re at the mercy of one of 80 telephone operators who aren’t allowed to make decisions and just sound bored as they repeat ad nauseam “there’s nothing I can do”. I actually doubt the Network Manager exists, because they should have contacted us yesterday and we’re still waiting. They also demonstrate poor competence - they arranged for a second plumber to contact us; heard nothing so we phoned them - turns out they don’t even do the type of work we need and had told Saga that but Saga didn’t bother to let us know. Our claim has been escalated to the invisible Network Manager so now no one in the Claims team can do anything apparently, not even to arrange for another (third or fourth by now?!) plumber - meanwhile we’ve been 4 and a half weeks without water! We have lodged our complaint and were supposed to have heard from the Complaints team on Monday - to date have heard nothing. I can’t find anything about their emergency KPIs, probably because they know they won’t meet them. Meanwhile the leak is getting worse, we are STILL awaiting a plumber (great emergency service!) and this claim is costing Saga more by the day due to their total incompetence. Highway robbery

Renewal premium increased by an additional £613. Been a customer for a number of years and called Saga. Best they could do for me is to reduce by £50.00. Checked around and for same cover have taken a new policy elsewhere at an increase of £20 pa. 2 family members have Saga insurance and if they are quoted such a massive increase they took will go elsewhere. Renewing house insurance

1
Saga (and their underwriters) should be avoided. They declined to renew our house insurance on the day it expired having previously bombarded us with emails with questions about the property, many of which were repeated and some of which were imposible to answer. Even the Saga agents I spoke to were embarrassed. Reviewed on: 27th November 2024

Avoid Avoid

When making a claim, I was met with an Irish team of arrogant, passive aggressive people who all they done was put up barriers regarding my claim I would not recommend SAGA to anyone. In fact I would say avoid at all cost. Reviewed on: 15th November 2024

Avoid this company at all costs

1
My current home insurance cost £384 with Saga. Initially I was pleased. I made no claims at all this year. 4 years ago with another insurer I had had to make a claim when my oil tank split. This was resolved with no problems and was on my record when I joined Saga this year. This year my renewal quote was £3750!! Why? Reviewed on: 10th September 2024
