Review of the Sainsburys Bank, Car insurance:

Disgusting attitude - lost a customer

1
Reasonable price for taking the policy a year ago. Have always paid car insurance monthly and deal was appealing for the double nectar points as do most of food and fuel shopping there. Renewal comes through 40% higher even though no claims... and to rub it in they told me that I possibly couldn’t afford to pay the extra £10 a month for the premium so they could only offer a lump sum payment option to me?! How condescending - I could quite easily afford to pay the price upfront but I shopped around and got a better deal with my bank (Lloyds) - they quoted literally pennies more than my current policy and loads of other extras included. When I rang Sainsbury’s to cancel, they didn’t ask why. Didn’t offer to haggle on a quote. They just told me they’d send proof of NCD in the post. I made a comment that I got a good quote with Lloyds and the person on the phone couldn’t have cared less. I get the impression they have a group of people they don’t want anymore and I’m one of them. Policy cancelled. New insurance set up. Plus once my double points offer finishes on 9th June I will not spend another penny with them. I’ll do my shopping elsewhere. They clearly don’t want my custom. Reviewed on: 21st May 2020

Ripping off people

1
If had read all these reviews before I subscribed, I would stay clear from this so called car insurance. Unlike most people, I thankfully didn't had to make a claim or update something. My issue I had is more pathetic than that...when I bought my insurance, I was promised 4000 nectar points so I thought why not...I filled up everything and entered my nectar card number as requested. Then nothing...I called them to enquire and they said to wait 60 days which I did...3 months after, no points, I called again and a guy told me he will request these points for me...waited but still no points after 2 months of waiting. Called again 3 weeks ago and spoke to a rude lady who was shouting like a fishmonger to tell I didn't qualify for this points as I didn't enter a promotional code (it goes without saying that no promo code was shown on check out...it was a lie) but she did say she will call me back to resolve the matter....of course she never did. I called again today and the same excuses have been brought up again this time blaming Money Supermarket for the issue but no way they were going to issue the points. I was fuming, wasted my time and my money! They cannot be trusted if they can't fulfill their promises for few points how can you trust them for car incident claim!!! This is coming from Sainsbury's group, I would stay well away from them...in all honesty I am not going to shop in their supermarket anymore either as I am disgusted by their behaviour....Liars and pathetic, that is what they are!!! Worst service

1
The price was very low so I should have expected problems. The day before it was due to go live they wrote saying that they couldn’t accept the no claims from previous insurer. If you want to phone them it costs £25 and if you want to cancel it costs £25. Tye app/website is awful. Don’t use them. Reviewed on: 6th March 2023

Absolutely appalling customer service - do not use

1
I called Sainsbury's Car Insurance to amend my address on my policy. They said that the underwriters couldn't offer a quote on the new address (?!?) and said they I would have to cancel my policy (?!!), even though I'd had the policy for less than 4-months they refused to refund the set-up fee (£40), forcing me to lose out on this fee and then also pay a set-up fee on my new policy. Daylight robbery. Tried to argue this point with them but they said that 'it's in my terms and conditions'. Do not use Sainsbury's Car Insurance. Terrible Customer Service. Worst insurer I've had

1
Still waiting for my refund of car insurance. I stopped my auto renewal online only to find out that sainsbury continued to take monthly payments. Also sent me a bill for £40 cancellation fee even tho I didnt cancel, I only stopped the renewal. I had taken out car insurance elsewhere to which they want proof of ( god knows why ) , it's not got anything to do with them. Communication is pathetic. Passed from agent to agent and promised calls back which never happen. You'd think a company this reputable would make the effort but nothing. AVOID AT ALL COST. YOU WILL BE DISSAPOINTED!!!! Really bad insurer

1
I wanted to add someone to my policy as I've got covid and my parents are elderly and sick. I wanted someone to be able to check on them so tried to insure him on my policy. He has no convictions and no accidents he's over 40 but they wouldn't allow him to be covered. Worse than that they had no idea why. They then gave me the wrong no. For the underwritten so I can't find out either. I wouldn't trust them with any insurance. Reviewed on: 16th January 2023

Bad Company

1
Rubbish! Absolutely useless! They told me they spread a missed payment over my remaining months, I then got home to a letter saying my policy was cancelled 5 days before receiving this letter. I was using my car all week and I was none of the wiser. The letter said they had written to me to warn me of the cancellation but no letter was received. They didn't spread the cost, as someone was apparently supposed to call me back but never did and I wasn't aware of this. Communication is awful! Penalise the customer without notice. Fucking useless app

1
Renewal due in 3 weeks. Not heard a thing from them. Tried to call 4 times for a quote, get transferred every time to 'correct department' - automatically on hold then cuts off after 15 mins. Their contact us form does not work. Literally no way of speaking with them. Cannot renew on the app. Absolutely ******* useless. Reviewed on: 19th December 2022

Unclear insurance cancellation

1
Don't take car insurance with them! You've been warned. I paid my insurance annually, all sorted before the insurance starting date. Initially they asked me for proof of NCD, which I uploaded on 23rd of November. I called them and they said that the insurance have been adjusted, and they owed me a refund for the NCD. However, I got a letter stating my insurance has been cancelled on 2nd of December due to outstanding balance. Why do I have an outstanding balance if they're owing me? They cancelled my insurance one sided- which was their internal fault. Although I got some of my money back, but it's very expensive to pay 250£ for insurance less then 2 months! I called them again today, spoke to sandy. Very nice and helpful, who's going to update me later. But overall, I wouldn't take car insurance with this bank anymore! Reviewed on: 5th December 2022

Cynical renewals policy

2
Waited for renewal quote until it was due in 4 weeks. Found my policy had been set to auto renew (who knew?). Switched that off and removed my card details. Got insurance with another provider. 2 weeks before renewal was due emailed me a quote considerably higher than previous. 1 week before renewal was due. Get email saying that my insurance was being renewed, despite having switched off auto renew. I then received another saying it could not be renewed as the card was refused. A bit of a relief. So if my card had not been actively withdrawn they would have charged another despite having auto renewal switched off. Sounds illegal to me Reviewed on: 28th November 2022
