Review of the Admiral, Travel Insurance:

Absolutely useless

1
Very disappointed by Admiral travel insurance. I’ve had good experiences with their home and car insurance but the travel insurance was absolutely useless when I had a problem while abroad. Reviewed on: 5th June 2023

Stubborn, impolite customer service.

1
They will lie and brush off your complaints. Given that I have the transcript that instructed me to put in my claim I am not happy. Simply put, don't bother with them. There are genuine companies out there that will take your claims seriously. Reviewed on: 12th January 2024

A con - Beware

1
I bought an annual multi-trip cover with Admiral in June 2023. In July, my handbag got stolen in Barcelona. I reported the theft and started a claim, only to find that the wording and classification of the claim is done in such a way to extract multiple 'excess' amounts for each item. It is also cleverly worded to exclude as many items as they can. I gave them every single evidence they asked for, but the classification of items allowed them to deduct the maximum number of excess and apply as many limits as they could. In the end I got a fraction of the claim back after a lot of back and forth with them over a few months. Fast forward to December 2023, I called them as I was travelling to Germany. According to the the policy, I needed to update my health condition in case of any changes and I had had a stent and an angioplasty (heart issue) done. After going through all the medical questions (to which I was totally honest with them), they informed me that my policy was declined and that they would refund the remaining 6 months of the policy. I asked them to decline the medical cover part of the policy or add an exclusion if they wished, but keep the luggage and the rest of the policy going. They, however, insisted on declining the policy and a few minutes later said that they couldn't refund the rest of the policy because I had already claimed on it before. There is stuff I understand and I have dealt with many providers before, but this company is out to get the consumers and should be reviewed by the relevant watchdog. I would give it zero stars if I could. Reviewed on: 29th December 2023

Shocking delays and Customer Service

1
I cannot believe the incompetence displayed by Admiral Travel, inexcusably delays of 4 months to date, the total lack of communication and customer service over what should have been a simple, basic claim for a net £99.48 medical bill. I will never consider Admiral for any type of insurance again. I paid for annual travel insurance with Admiral for a holiday in Turkey July 2023. On arrival at Dalaman Airport on my return flight 28 July, I felt very ill. Jet2 saw me and asked what was wrong. Because I obviously looked bad, they insisted that before they would allowed me to fly home, I saw the airport doctor to assess if I was fit to fly home. I had the medical, costing £249.48 and obtained a ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate. After a lot of stressful phone calls from Jet2 to UK, they finally allowed me to check in for the flight home. On 23/8/23 when I was feeling better, I initiated a claim on their online claim portal for the £249.48 less excess of £150 leaving a net claim of £99.48, completed all of their questionnaire and uploaded all of the requested evidence. Now, 4 months later, having uploaded the exact same evidence at least twice more, my claim is still showing at 25% complete with outstanding unanswered questions which are identical to what I uploaded on 23/8/23, although their on portal log shows everything that has been sent with dates. This week 11/12/23 after I sent another email asking where my refund was, they replied, from an unmanned email address, 4 months after my initial claim date, asking if I could confirm if I received a refund on my return flight? Baggage cover tha5 covers nothing!

1
Dreadful experience with Admiral travel insurance over my lost baggage. Staff are well trained and endlessly apologise, BUT, delays are unacceptable, everything is excluded in the policy small print so very little is actually covered. What is covered they demand unreasonable evidence if you don’t have receipts e.g links to websites with similar items,. My claim is not huge and Admiral must have spent more in reviewing my claim endlessly than the actual claim is worth. Baggage cover is just not worth it! Reviewed on: 30th November 2023

worst company insurance not worth the paper its written on

1
Missed our flight and lost our car hire vehicle enlightenment, but Admiral would not pay out under missed international departure stating that we were not covered for the airport delays that lead to us missing our flight, so when your down, stressed and upset they put the boot in. 1 star is being generous

1
Be very careful with this company, many loop-holes within their documentation regarding what they will pay out for. We had to cancel our holiday due a pet needing 24-hr care after what can be described as an horrific accident. Even though this had been taken completely out of our control, and a European leading vet had instructed to us to provide 24-hr care. Admiral simply couldn't wait to wash their hands of it. Even though there isn't anything written down in black & white regarding this. I think the morals of this company do drastically need reviewing. AVOID! Reviewed on: 7th November 2023

13 months later

1
Felt the need to write 2nd review as it has now been 13 months since my initial claim and have received zero resolution for what I was told was a formality. Was even paid £170 compensation by Admiral for poor complaint handling when the whole claim was only £517.00 - how does this even make sense?? A further 6m down the line and complaint still has t progressed it simply sits as open and being reviewed. Simply the worst company ever. Reviewed on: 10th October 2023

Website, claim process is a complete nightmare

1
I thought I was choosing a reputable company for my travel insurance but I was wrong. Completely frustrating experience. They lost all my claim documents, their website doesnt seem to remember my password so I have to reset it every time. Uploaded a ton of evidence and they asked for more. Finally got a settlement and they calculated it wrong! There is avenue to dispute your claim if you think its wrong. i've written to their complaints team hoping for a response. They owe me another £100! Reviewed on: 10th October 2023

Total rip off. 100% avoid

1
Admiral's travel insurance is simply not fit for purpose. Be aware that if you're making any journey that involves some sort of change, you're not covered for anything apart from the first part of the journey. I was travelling to the Loire by train and was stranded in Paris due to an electrical fault. The Platinum insurance I took out only covered me for the 2.5 hr Eurostar trip. Apparently I'd be covered if I'd flown. Total rip off and you're not exactly promoting sustainable travel, are you Admiral? Reviewed on: 5th October 2023

Admiral Travel Insurance is not worth the paper it's written on....................

1
Having fallen victim to the recent UK ATC issue, I was comforted by the knowledge that I had 'Admiral Platinum Travel Insurance' in place. That comfort was short lived as Admiral quickly wriggled out of any intention to honour their policy. Whilst claiming to cover out/inbound travel issues affected by UK based technical issues; they have a clause in their policy that excluded 'computer based' technical issues!! Now, most 'technical things' these days have a computer chip in them somewhere so this is clearly a cheap and shabby 'get out clause' for them not to have to honour a genuine and highly credible claim. Surely one of the most fundamental reasons a traveller takes out travel insurance is in lieu of issues (out of their control) that means they have a trip abandoned, interrupted or disrupted. Not the case with Admiral insurance. I would advise strongly to both shop elsewhere and read the small print carefully - there may be more unethical companies out there. Perhaps Admiral should consider re-branding their policies............ 'Admiral Brass Travel Insurance' might be more appropriate for the latent short-comings of their cover.
